Has any one installed a lower temperature thermostat in their engine, 160 degree F forsntance? I know this was a perormance and longievity improveent back in my V-8 days. (Last car) Does such a thing exist for a 2002 WRX. Is it worth while? Yes, I know it is an emission sensitive item.
TIA

Zerosports makes the only low temp thermostat I have seen.
I made a thread about it, but its not going all too fast :)

Nick, I have one. Yes they are expensive and I am sure you could go down to pimpboyz and match up a $4 Stant Thermostat.
With the Zerosports you are paying more because of several things. One, It is a "fast action" unit that uses a different design. It is claimed to react much faster then coil type Tstats. Two, Its a JDM part that has to be imported. Three, It says Zerosports on it
I did a full cooling system upgrade a while back and it was one of those things that I wish I did on my stock car. Det threashold was raised allowing me to run more boost. I datalogged the difference.
My setup:
I purchased my parts at vividracing.com but other Iclub vendors stock this stuff as well.
PWR radiator, HUGE! FIts stock fans and drops right in.
Samco hoses for reliability.
Zerosports cool action thermo
STI 1.3 bar Radiator cap.
70-30 mix of water-coolant.
Only drawback is the extra weight. The PWR radiator is so huge it took about nearly 4 gallons of mix to fill it and the engine. I figure I added at least 20 lbs to the front of the car....

 Thats alot of weight to be adding to the front of the car.
... You could always relocate the battery to the trunk to counter the added weight right? Not that it will make anything lighter, but slightly better balanced.
Of course you might have done that along time ago :)
