Whatever shade appeals to you the most. You're the only one it matters to.

Get some high temp paint, for longevity. The overpriced brake painting kits have a nice color of red, very motorsports-esque. Home Depot has a nice selection of quality spray paints, high temp paints ect.

While the manifold is off for painting, you might as well do a parallel fuel conversion as well. Check out www.scoobymods.com for details.

Im not sure of the exact color but Ive seen it done well and it looks mint. Nice inexpensive mod (if you would call it that) that looks cool.

i just painted the manifold and its almost exactly like the sti red. i first cleaned the crap out of it. then i primered it with white sandable primer, then i used ford red high temp paint. its looks perfect

It's not pink!! It's "sakura no iro" - cherry blossom color :D
And yes, I'd like to see someone with a pink intake manifold too hehe. BTW, is there any difference between the STi's intake manifold and ours, other than the color? Because I've seen the STi intake manifold for sale... and who'd wanna pay $xxx for something that can be DIY? Just wondering :D

DIY should be easy. I'd do it, but mine always ends up mud or dirt brown.

There is a difference between the STI manifold and the USDMs manifold.. I have seen a few in person. Really the only difference besides the color is the absence of the TGV's, or Tumble Generator Valves, which are on our manifold to reduce cold start emissions by disrupting the air flow as it enters the combusiton chamber alowing very lean A/F mixtures to ignite etc.. Not only does the STI manifold not have these TGVs (which could be seen as a disruption to airflow even when fully closed), the STI manifold is also alittle shorter because of it.

It goes like this:

Manifold
|
TGV / SPACERS
|
Head

The actual manifold is the same. The STi one is red. The TGV's or SPACERS (in STI's case) can be simply unbolted and are not part of a manifold.

----

I have powdercoated my manifold "tornado wrinkle red". Looks very nice. It is textured, so looks like the head covers on Type R DC2's.

I also went through trouble of removing the TGV's from the housings, porting and polishing them.

And, I got the manifold extrude honed. Cost me ~ $250, but it is super smooth on the inside now.

Now all you need, is a ported TB.

Imprezer... did you notice any power increase after you got the manifold extrude honed?? A friend of mine has a Mustang Cobra and those guys have been basically dremeling and sanding down the inside of their manifolds to make them completely smooth (the inexpensive way, although $250 isn't bad)... they've been gaining like 5-8whp.

I wonder if doing this to the WRX manifold would give the same results. I've never actually looked inside one so I don't know if this would even be possible. I'm sure they're similar in the fact that they're both cast (?) and have some very rough edges internally. THANKS!

alex:

did you just remove the tvg plates or the entire unit. if you removed the entire units did you weld the holes on the side shut. thanks

The TGV plates and shats were completely removed, welded shut and then the TGV's were gasget matched. That was before I knew I could just get the STi ones. Oh well. ;)

Gains from all that? Not sure. I have lots more done so cannot say what that alone did. I am sure it helped. The car IS a bit harder to start in the morhing then before though.

Wow Alex, that a pretty engine shot. Would you mind sending me a high res shot of that? Pm or email. Seems like the alt. belt runs awfly close to the inlet pipe.

thanks

Definitely go for the red, It makes the engine bay look much better IMO.
