View Full Version : Inactive reserves...
Unregistered 01-24-2005, 04:54 PM This past weekend me and my family all had dinner together. My brothers future brother-in-law, no idea what that makes him to me, was in the marines for four years and said he doubts that the Inactive reserves will ever put into action anytime soon. And even though he is a liberal he said he would go to war and do his time instead of skipping out on it if called on. So my question is what would it take for congress to put them in action and how many are there presently? Also my mom is DIMA reserves, I forgot exactly what that stands for but if I remember right she takes the place of someone at home but doesn't go to conflict. How does that work out? I guess Im just wondering will this happen anytime soon? Jason, said no because of politics but what do you all think?
Salty 01-24-2005, 05:30 PM It already has for some MOS's. It happened during Desert Storm so Paul & Pat will probably tell you about it some.
It stands for Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and is usually implemented for depleted, unpopular MOS's. You have an 8yr obligation minus the time you served.
So 4 yr contract = 4yrs IRR, 3yr contract = 5 IRR.
I'd go into depth but it's quittin’ time.

Please have at it again. You have to account for the fact that english is his third language. He needs help keeping up to speed sometimes.

That's just plain cold hearted.

Thanks. Oh and I'm sorry my grammar and spelling is not up to par with someone that has only learned English. But hey I passed my three English classes in college so I guess thats good enough for me. ;)

Would you like some milk with that cookie?
I think subaruguru is bringing up the fact the IRR has been active for some MOS's but you weren't up to speed on the issue. This is pretty humorous considering you seemed to be all knowing and quite opinionated in the '5,500 soldiers have deserted Iraq' thread when they were apart of that figure. But I’m sure you knew that too...

gpatmac 01-24-2005, 10:31 PM Everyone who has signed up for Selective Service has agreed to an 8 year commitment to the US Military in some form. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. You all know the last time that complete civilians were called up. Salty's right in that prior to OIF/OEF, the last time that the IRR was activated in toto was for ODS. I haven't paid much attention, but I know that some IRR has been selectively called up for the GWOT.

Do you just not see the little wink. Yeah I was being funny. I could careless what he thinks about my spelling. In fact I have said time and time again that my spelling is one of my biggest flaws. **** I barely got by the first two English's I had to take in college. Go figure I got C's. Atleast in my upper division one I got a B. But still I digress when have I ever said I was a great speller or writer for that matter?
And something else what does me saying its a good comparison, when Oaf did those comparisons, have to do with Inactive reserves? Maybe I missed something but all I said was that we where in Iraq for oil. What am I missing here? When did I make the claim that I know every detail of the armed forces? **** I even AGREED with you at one point in that thread. So whatever.
