When you think of Martin Luther King, regardless of your race, what do you think?

The holiday creates tension, and is divisive. Do "whites, asians, or indians" celebrate the holiday?

I am not questioning the intent of the holiday, only the unanticipated consequence of the name.

Why not rename MLK day to Civil Rights Day? For the inclusiveness that Americans treasure, such a name would be embraced by all americans.
Ok Ok, so I got the idea from Michael Savage, but I've never agreed with him more.

If you don't buy that line of thinking, how about getting rid of the holiday based on The Separation of Church and State... you know he was a minister, right?

Getting rid of the celebration of his birthday has nothing to do with church and state.

I honor his birthday even though I'm agnostic. Just because he was a minister doesn't mean we can't celebrate what he did for the civil rights movement.

Yeah, I've given this a lot of thought. I'm PISSED OFF at MLKjr and black people in general because I'm getting a paid day off.:rolleyes:

By the way, I challenge you to show me anywhere in the Constitution where it even refers to a separation of church and state. I believed that it was in there until a friend challenged me to find something. I couldn't.

Anyhow, my belief is Dr. King is venerated independant of religion. I think that what he did is worthy of sainthood. The ultimate sacrifice for a monumental cause.

Have you seen those related MLK topics, like "where are we now?"

Martin Luther King would turn in his grave if he knew his cause was being twisted by those pursuing Gay marriage as a civil rights issue.

So, in a nutshell, MLK brings up tension in topics like:
Gay Marriage
Affirmative Action
White Males are Evil
Oppressed minorities

Any of those topics inclusive?

Did I miss anything?

Anyone who tries to use MLK day to fit their own agends is just ruining the spirit of a good holiday.
