Just left the NASIOC site where one of the members had his ride stolen. Got me to thinking about WRX thefts recently. Even a subie down the road from me was stolen a few weeks ago.
Anyway, worked out a group buy w/ the president of RAVELCO (www.neverstolen.com)-apparently you can't steal a car with this device on it -short of getting a flatbed or a towtruck...
He'll give us Subie people a deal on the product. It usually retails for $349.95 installed and if we get more than 7 people interested it'll cost $275.00
Location and date: tbd.
Looking to have it in between San Deigo and LA. Got two people interested so far.
LMK if interested.

a few quick questions:
1) what about our friends/family who do not drive subarus? (i know, travesty) can we get them in on this group buy as well?
2) what is the rough time frame of this group buy? I ask because I am interested, but I will not be in southern california from late december to january. I don't want to commit, and then have to back out because Im not around.
3) contacting the company about this, but maybe you happen to know: how does this effect turbo timer operation? for that matter, will it be affected by turbo timer operation/installation?

number 3 good question^^^
I've emailed them about all 3 (no disrespect intended), if I hear back before boost knows, I'll post reply
I have a feeling that it's going to be essentially incompatible with TT's

Got a reply back today... FYI, that link is for North East.... www.nohotwire.com is for westcoast.
As for #1, #2
"As far as the price goes, the discounts are based off of doing the same vehicle multiple times. We do offer multiple car discounts, if we do them all at the same time. We’re based in Menlo Park, just north of Stanford, so doing your installation shouldn’t be a problem. Feel free to write if you have any questions."
So in essence, that would be a different group buy I guess for other vehicles, but being at the same place apparently is not an issue?... seems that way, but not certain anyway.
As for #3 and TT operation
"The Ravelco Anti-Theft device is designed to cut power to two systems in your vehicle which prevent it from being hotwired. On the WRX, we stop the fuel and the starter. So, if you have a Turbo timer, you will have to leave the plug in when you exit the vehicle, as when you pull the plug out, the fuel to the engine will be cut.
The turbo timer will have no effect on the Ravelco. Other than the Ravelco cutting fuel to the engine when it’s unplugged, the Ravelco will not have any effect on the turbo timer. When you leave your vehicle, you will have to decide if you want to let the turbo timer run, or secure your vehicle."
Like i thought, they are essentially incompatible with one another. However, as there is an abundance of literature all over the place discussing how wrx's don't need turbo timers, it's not such a big deal... the A'pexi unit i have also does A/F, o2, and batt so not a total wash.
I was also concerned that the way in which the TT was wired would affect installation, but that apparently is not an issue.
So it's a toss up if you want to leave the plug in and be able to pretend like you installed the clapper in your car, or to take it with you when you drive around in compton... ^^ still seems like a good idea.
