Anybody else get notification of the recall for the O2 sensor thing yet? I heard about it on the My.Subaru.Com page first, got the letter not long ago. Haven't gotten around to making my appointment yet, just wondering if anyone else has had theirs done.

Wait keep the letter. You have no limit as I know of when it has to go in. So even if you keep it 3 years and it blows out of warranty it is still covered.

It shouldn't really matter- when they write a repair ticket on your VIN the recall should pop-up. If you take a car in 10 years later they still have to fix the recall as far as I know. If they tried to charge you for it, I'd give the BBB a call.

Yeah, I'm not worried about getting it fixed free, I've just been too lazy to go do it and my light hasn't come on. I have a 7/00 production date and I think it might be on later cars that the bad batch went through.

Good question, call Fred, my guy from the dealership in Brewster that your dad got the car from, and ask him.
He'll hook you up with the right info.

I have had the ECU reprogrammed on the the family Legacy GT wagon. It is not a big thing, they just plug in a module and it uploads new data for the ECU. All the new software does is just change the set value of the O2 sensor to have a higher level when it reads the O2. The recall doesn't do anything. But no matter what the dealer should not be able to charge you for that part if is in a campaign recall.

HAHA, that would be sweet. Talk about your bang-for-the-buck mod.

Are you talking about the ECU reflashing, or is there a recall on the 02 sensor itself? I had the relfashing done already (stupid DMV wouldn't let me register cause it's supposedly emissions related). No big deal. But I haven't heard anything aobut an 02 sensor, yet.

Yup, I got mine a few months ago. Try putting your vin# in carfax.com, to see if your vin falls under the recall....

on a side note, since this is an emissions related recall, you won't be able to register your car next time registration is due, that is, if you live in the People's Republic of California.

Tell me about it. It just sucks to have a car in California (besides the wether being so nice). They cashed my check and never bothered to notify me that I needed this done. I finally checked with DMV a month later when I didn't recieve my stickers.

Anyway, the reflashing was no big deal. Only took around an hour, as long as your dealership isn't overpacked with service crap.

You can check your car by registering at subaru.com, it will notify you there and by email of any recalls. Also will show you any dealer service done to your car- useful if you aren't the first owner.

I also got the reflash done, it was quick and easy. I think I may have gotten a slight gain in HP, but that could just be wishfull thinking. Guess I should do some G-Tech runs, since I know what it did before the reflash. And there was a recall on the actual O2 sensors for some 00 and 01 cars, I guess there was a bad batch that Subaru got. That one is VIN dependant, and not all cars needed it (mine didn't). But that sensor recall was about a year or so ago, guess it just took them a while to get to you, unless this was al about the reflash, and even then, I got mine done about 4-5 months ago.
