i know with running a TBE you will more then likely experience boost leak. is it better to port your stock wastegate or to just buy a new one? if i have plans to upgrade turbos and put more power to it then wouldn't it be better to just go ahead and upgrade your wastegate?

also i read the fp green turbo comes with an internal wastegate. what are the advantages or having either an inernal or external wastegate? which is better?

 

what kind of places will port a wastegate? also the turbo i'd like to get is the fp green. i read it's got a internal wastegate also. how does it normally cost to port your wastegate? i don't want it to be a waste b/c if i port the stock one and then later on get the fp green and it has a internal one then i've wasted money on porting the stock one.

 

Most any shop can port it...one with Subi experence would be most preferable. Probably the hardest part would be taking it off and putting it back on. Porting it would probably only take a few min w/ the right tools.

You can auctualy do it yourself if you have a die grinder and a carbide tip. Im sure someone has wrote up a DIY on it.

 

What you're really getting ported is the wastegate hole where the flapper covers it. At full boost the wastegate flapper will fully open up expelling gas out of the hole. And the goal is to enlarge the hole enough where the flapper can still cover everything. Buy an electric die grinder and port it yourself, it's very hard to mess up. As somebody said the most difficult part would be removing the turbo out of the car. You're better off just buying the FP green with the wastegate hole ported, and if funds permit, and if there's a way you can get a custom downpipe or uppipe that has an external wastegate mount that would be the best route to go. I've dealt with internal wastegates on big turbos like the FP green, and no matter what I did there was creep like no other unless I ran 25+psi. With a bigger turbo that flows that much air, you DO NOT WANT BOOST CREEP... it's scary. External wastegates will hold boost rock solid, but from what I've seen (or shall i say "haven't seen") are external wastegate mounted up or downpipes.
