So I brought my car into the dealership a week ago for the "Clutch Judder TSB" and got my whole clutch assembly and flywheel replaced under warranty. When I drove it home, I was amazed with how smooth everything was compared to before, but now, I'm not so sure...

The evening I got my car back (last night), I was getting ready to leave and tried going into Reverse and it grinded. So I let off the clutch, clutch back in, shift to 1st, then back into Reverse... more grind. So I let out the clutch again, clutch in, wait a couple of seconds, shift back into Reverse, it finally goes in, but still with a grind.

And now, tonight, when I'm leaving work, I turned on my car, tried to shift into 1st before Reverse, but it wouldn't even go into 1st. So I shifted into Reverse, which again, went in with a grind.

Is this common with new clutch assembly installed or am I really experiencing a serious problem. I'm afraid of the moment where I'm at a stop light, and the light turns green, and I can't get into 1st.

What could possibly be wrong? And also... That evening I was getting ready to go out, when I started the car, I hear a rattling noise coming from the dashboard area. Whenever there's a little vibration, lets say between shifts and from being at a complete stop to forward movement, there's a rattling noise. Did the service guys forget to tighten something? My car's still broken... Help...!

Make certain that when you depress the clutch pedal, you're pushing it all the way to the pedal stop and not just an inch up from it. If you're pressing the pedal all the way down and you still get the grinding when trying to put the transmission in gear with the engine running, that means your clutch is not fully disengaging. Take it back to the dealer because since they just changed everything, they should make it right.

If it is at the point where you don't think you can drive it to the dealership, ask them if they can arrange for towing.
