ahhh SO CONFUSED 05 wrx or Type S?!?!
Wow, so me and my dad have been looking around for cars for 3 months. I currently drive a v6 mustang that was handed down to me. So now it is time for me to get a new car. Well basically I narrowed my choice down to a new 05 rsx type s, and of course the 05 wrx. My future plans for my car is the straight line and daily driving. I keep hearing horror stories about wrx's transmission problems, and I tried searching for 05 transmision info but found nothing. I know awd or fwd is not really a good choice for the 1/4, if it was my choice I would get a F-body but I can't. So which do you think would be best for me?

new rustang for 1/4 wrx can do fast 1/4 but its not its main strenght. new rustang is about the same cost and i am sure will do better in 1/4 mile stock.
You are one lucky person. Both the WRX and the Type S are great cars. Personally I think that the WRX is much more of a car than a Type S though. I used to own a few Mustangs in the past, but then I had to sell them because I live in Canada and I couldn't drive them in the snow. I bought a Mazda Protoge 5, but I got rid of that slug in less than a year and traded it in for a '02 WRX, which is much closer in terms of performace to my '91 GT, plus you can drive it in all weather conditions. Also, it has 4 doors, so you can haul more people and stuff so its pretty practical. A WRX would blow the doors off a Type S as well, and with light mods such as a good exhaust system and ECM upgrade you'd be looking at close to 270hp at the flywheel, and about 240 ft/lbs of torque. Honestly these two cars aren't even in the same league when it comes to performance, unless you are planning to spend major money on upgrades to your Type S, in which case you'd probably just match the preformance levels of a stock WRX.
Granted Honda has a generally higher level of fit and finish, but personally I'd be willing to give up a bit of refinement for more *****.
Do yourself a favour and go for the Subie.

And from what I read (I don't post often but read a lot here!), the tranny is as solid as any other cars, it's just that it's getting abused much more with the 4wd hard lunch, so if you drive your car normally from stop starts you won't have any problems with the tranny/clutch

Back in 03, I had the same decision to make too. 04 WRX or 04 Type S. I bought the WRX because you get the comfort of a regular car while getting the performance of a sports car. In my WRX, I can fit five people in it and I do not need to fold my seat foward for people who wants to sit in the rear. It will kill any car off the launch and with some of the mildest mods, you will be able to out handle some of the competitors. Trust me, get the WRX. It also has childseat latch capabilities in the rear, so you can even keep this car when you have kids. The WRX is perfect for everything. Off-roading, Auto-X, Drag Racing, Mountain Carving, Snow Fun, Daily Driving, Weekend Warrior, anything you want.
I also had to decide between a 04 WRX or a 04 type S like WindingRoad. I test drove both of them and loved them both. I loved the turbo in the wrx, but the type s engine to me sounded nice. Shifting in the type s felt a lot better compared to a wrx too. But in the end i went with the WRX because its a sedan and more pratical (like WindingRoad said). Everytime i see the commercial for the 05 type s, i always tell me self i should of waited and gotten that.
They are both beautiful cars and which ever car you pick you will most likely be happy with it.
Also another thing with acura is the first scheduled maintenance is 110,000 miles which i didnt like to much.

My friend just picked up on 03 RSX Type S and wants to get rid of it already after he drove the WRX
The Type S is a really nice car, but I dont think its got the potential of the WRX, and he hates it in the rain being FWD...

tranny might not be defective, but shifting in a WRX is not half as much fun/smooth as shifting in an acura, i can assure you!
test drive both cars and decide. i hate the way the WRX shifts.

anyway, i'm just giving an unbiased opinion here. the WRX is a great car on so many levels, with utility being the foremost attribute. seriously, go drive other "sports" cars and you will see what i'm talking about with the WRX shifting action.

ive had both go with the wrx, i love hondas very much, but alas the rsx has weeknesses, if they made a rsx type r that was 200hp at the wheels and had an LSD it would be alittle more difficult. I guess it just depends what you want out of the car. performance ? get a wrx you'll spend less green and go alot faster. if you want a fun reliable gas friendly hold its value car and nothing more then the RSX
