I was wondering can a wrx be made into twin turbo, and how would you be able to accomplish it?

If it means anything to you, remember that both Porsche & Subaru makes twin turbo engines. It is possible, but at what cost?

The wrx, from what i have both read and heard, is set up for a single turbo application and responds better to one.

What about an STi? Who defines how an engine will respond to 1,2, or 4 turbos? Just because something is not often done does not make it a bad idea. What makes it a bad idea is cost & complexity. Remember, an engine is a air pump. & a turbo sinply makes that air pump more efficient.

It has been done here 2 times and both times were not as good as a larger single turbo

i think its cost and headaches usually dont equil the satisfaction in the end...... if they arent doing it there is usually a problem but an H6 TT is sweet

Great question.

Use the search button, there has been some interesting threads about this in the past. I hope you have some time to sift thru the info.

Why couldn't it be a sequential twin turbo setup? That is the TT setup Subaru uses...

At any rate, I am not suggesting that anyone convert their WRX into a TT. It is simply alot of work just to say you did it. But if you have a burning desire to do so, by all means...

well, for the start, the engine has two banks, its easier to run two seperate turbos (300z tt, 3kgt vr4, porsche 993 and 996 turbo, even ferrari f40), if its a inline or rotary engine, it's usually single or sequential (2jz, rb26, and 3rd gen b13), in fact, the only car w/ two bank of cylinders and a sequential setup was prosche 959, which was a rare EXPERIMENTAL supercar. but its proven to be working awesome (it nearly broke all the road car record when it first came out).
so i guess with proper engineering (and financing, of course) anything is possible.

Re-read my post(s). You are agreeing with me. Subaru made a twin turbo for JDM Legacies so it is possible, just complicated.

FYI, IIRC, the Syclone & typhoon were single turbo, as were the earlier 911 turbos.

...and most diesel trucks (duramax, powerstroke) too, i think

well. my point is it's hard to do a sequential on engines w/ two banks, that's all
