In Japan, Subaru released WRX STi spec-c TYPE-RA. TypeRA has been a familiar model in GC8 and was famous for the race ready stripped down model. In GD model, Type RA existed for a really short time after the initial debut. It was offered in GDA-A and discontinued soon after... In GDB-B, WRX STi typeRA spec-C came out to fill the blank with more power (VF34) and less weight (no trunk carpet for example). In GDB-C,D,and E the the name typeRA dropped and it was simply WRX STI spec-C. Now along with WRX STi spec-C, there is WRX STi spec-C TYPE-RA, to add more confusion. This time typeRA is different. It is not a striped model as it used to be. Instead, it is a luxury model of Spec-C. It has Auto AC, STi carbon fiber wings, V-limited chin spoiler, electric folding mirrors, STi 17 inch rims... but its still spec-C.

official info
http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/spec_c_RA/02/index.html

The red is specially offered as an option. Very similar or the same color as GDB-C limited.

So why is Subaru doing this?

This is my guess
Currently only STi is homologated as a FIA rally/race car.
Subaru is trying to homologate the WRX STi Spec-C (officially true)
.... needs more volume to pass the FIA rules
.... thus WRX WR-limited (based on specC) and this Spec-C typeRA (based on specC) Both of them counts..

But I was under the impression that FIA no longer requires homologation rules for WRC cars, like they didd back in the day. For instance, do you know of a AWD Focus available in any country? What about a AWD turbo Accent? I have never seen or heard of such a thing outside of WRC. I dunno, maybe there are some bomb ass Skyline killing Foci sold in Columbia or Malaysia, but I don't see that happening.

Homologation is for Gr. N and PWRC, not for WRC cars.

As far as I know focus cosworth is only been seen in concepts and not for sale. And it would certainly be AWD like other cosworths.

This car is very much alive in Europe... Well, it's labeled the Focus RS, but I think Cosworth supplies the motor, but don't quote me on that last part.. And the car is FWD.

Duh you said it yourself, that's a Focus RS. I'm talking about something with cosworth labeled which doesn't exist for Focus yet.

This is a hard-core car that demands committed and skilled wheelmanship to deliver its best. But if you're in the mood, it can deliver a cocktail of thrills that even the Subaru WRX can't match. And at #19,995 ($31,392), it's a great value.

Why do I find that *VERY* hard to believe?....esp. with a FWD car, that is limited to 170 ft/lbs of torque in 1st and 2nd gears.

I have recieved an e-mail from Subaru of North America, and they told me that there are no plans of bringing the Sti RA Spec C to the US. But if they get enough e-mails from customers, and they find out that there are enough people who would actually buy this vehicle, that they will consider to ship this awesome car to our shores!!! So lets get together and make this happen!!!! Though you guys wanted to know!

a mass email campaign isnt going to make subaru do anything. everyone and their grandma could write, and only a miniscule percentage of the people that actually write would buy it, even though they all say they would buy it. plus its not over here for other reasons, not because there is no demand...

Check out the seats mentioned at the bottom of the page. Babelfish sometimes translates things a little strangely..... Or maybe Subaru is trying to imply something about their drivers....

Off topic,

I went to my local Scooby dealership, and drooled over the STi and lamented over buying a wagon over the STi. He said that I shoud not fret, I could just pay off the WReX and buy the Legacy STi when it comes out, the turbo H6. Ive heard rumors about this beast and the STi forester. But this was the first time some one "offical" actually said something to this effect. Just curious if anyone has more info on this.

AFAIK only the WRX STI Spec-C has been homologated:

homologation info: http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/e/GRN/bulletins/040902.html
quite a few "details" would have to be sorted if anyone wants to use a STi Spec C RA for Group N. On 2003 and 2004 only the regular STi was homologated.

Actually, I wouldn't mind if they at least ship the sus parts here and the aero parts. Maybe we can start with that to Subaru and build it up to the car. But, the whole car is will be well worth the wait IMHO. Thank GOD I got a job offer! :D :D :D I would soooo choose that wing over the current one on the Sti.

Import the car for the win, thou it may be expensive the price would be well worth it, i know a few people that just import and they say it would be no problem just fork over the cash $$$, i was like sooner or later i will get it.

that's funny that you heard that. I heard from my subaru dealership that they were only going to send 2000 Sti's to the states as a whole and they were going to be limited. And even more so, that they weren't going to make two production years to the states......so much for that
