The lease on my 2000 RS sedan will be ending this year and I am considering getting a new Legacy GT instead. I know it is the same engine and heavier chassis but how do the two really compare? I know you get upgraded goodies like larger brakes, better suspension and leather compared to the regular legacy.
I want to get away from the boy racer look but i want keep the beauty of all wheel drive! are suspension N/A engine upgrades that apply to the RS the same for the Legacy? are there any changes to the legacy coming out with the '04 models later this year? or where do i find news about any?
thanks in advance,
Brian

Not to many bits are swapable suspension wise. The weight is very noticable in the legacy vs the rs. The overall comfort and refinement advantage makes up for it. In a year or two the us version of the b4 will be available. It's not going to be twin turbo, but rather a turbo'ed 2.5. Very similar to the sti power plant. I would wait for that if could. I love my legacy to death, but it's lacking in the power dept.
i had the RS and Gt Legacy (wife's car) at the same time and now own a WRX and Legacy.
the RS is a lot more nimble and sure footed...less body roll, but that should be expected.
the legacy rides a lot nicer and quieter. it's still a fun car and you're right it's a lot less "boy racer." Get the legacy and swap a wrx engine! either way you won't be disapointed in the GT, it's a great car.

The legacy GT is a nice car it definately offers more "refinement" than an Imprezza. Its definately heavier but if your trying to get away from the racer boy then you probably know speed isn't everything. (I still ove it thought) If they had a Turbo version right now I'd buy it hands down over a WRX. I'd have to see the WRX Sti compared to the us B4 to make a choice there.
I'd say go for the GT you wont be unhappy.

for me speed isn't everything. i like the look and styling to the GT and i know the handling and looks can be upgraded to suit taste (B4 wannabe!) but even if the turbo was avaliable you can't use it on crowded freeways and the insurance would be huge i am sure.
i think i will be getting a 2004 legacy gt come this september. thanks again.
are there any style changes for 2004 model different than the 2003? before the make real changes for the B4 2005?

There are plenty of parts.
There are coilovers for it. Just no springs.

You can buy springs for the Legacy as well as coilovers. tein makes several choices for the legacy. As far as the turbo goes there will be a 2000 Legacy GT with a turbo in it by next week in our club.
I love the GT and wish I had bought it rather than the Outback.

For the 1st and 2nd Gen Legacy's there are plenty of suspension choices, though not all easy to get. However, the 3rd Gen Legacy's have coilovers in a easier to find postion but springs and struts "are" available.
FYI:You "might" need different top mounts for these as USDM cars top mounts are bigger than their JDM counterparts .
