Hey everyone. I got a quick question for you legal guru's. My friend and I were riding home tonight (on 270 south for you fellow Marylanders) and the cop passed me and proceeded to pulled my friend over. Being the good friend that I am I pulled over about 200 feet in front of them to wait for him. Well I started walking toward them and the officier walked up to me and said "i'm glad you pulled over too, license and registration". I was like "what the hell, you didn't pull me over". Long story short he gave me a speeding ticket along as well. What's the deal with that? He told that if I had kept going I wouldn't have gotten a ticket. Can he do that? Isn't that self-incrimination? It wasn't like I was turning myself in. I would appreciate any feedback you guys have.

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, it's gonna be hard to fight the law man. You might get the ticket thrown out if you're lucky, but it'll probably cost you some decent court fees in the process. But i'm no legal guru. I'll ask one of my buddies that's in the Sheriff's Dept. here. ;) Maybe he can shine some light on this matter.

BTW, it seems like we are both having a bad night. I USED to be a vendor on here until I got fired earlier tonight. I think you bought something off me recently! lol Could be wrong but your screen name looks familiar though...

Anyways, I'll see what my buddy says and if there's anything you can do about it.

Did he get a radar number on both of you?

I forgot to add that he didn't get us on radar. He was apparently pacing us for "about a mile" and my friend was going faster than I was and passed me and then the officer passed me and proceeded to pull over my friend. He didn't make any gesture to me or any contact. That's what is bothering me. It wasn't like he signal for me to pull over and then went after my friend. I could have just had a problem with my bike and needed to pull over to the side of the road and I get a ticket for that? Oh and we both got a ticket for the same speed.

I'd appreciate any info you can get from your friend. Sorry to hear that you were fired.

he passed you, therefore you couldn't have been going the same speed.

i would recommend hiring a lawyer...I'm sure theyll send you the mail..."lawyers for 69.99!". Theyre great, worth every penny

I ran a stop sign once, AND got caught for speeding at the same time. There weren't even any excuses about it. I was away at school, so this guy went for me and got me out of everything! No points, no fines, nothing, I didn't even have to step into the court room. Maybe you and your buddy can get a 2 for 1 :)

...Well I started walking toward them and the officier walked up to me...

yeah, I would've stayed in my car, or just gotten off at the next exit and called/text messaged my buddy.

can't get ahold of my cop buddy. sorry. he works all the time. but i'll keep looking for him or try to call him again.

i just realized where you are talking about. where on 270 did you get pulled? I've been up there a few times, but i forgot where 270 ends going north. anyways, my buddy in his 94 supra kinda got pulled doing 80-90ish and he didn't get a ticket. the cop just turned his lights on, pointed at him, and we got off at an exit (going to work). the cop pulled up next to us and said "slow it down". that was it. the exit is where that 1/4 mile strip is at. i forgot the name. it's like 75-80 dragway or something like that.

i got pulled about a week later on 270 south about 2 miles south of Fredrick for 78mph when i had my 00' celica and he let me go with a warning (i got a speeding warning and a neon licence plate warning).

i think you just got pulled and ticketed by an a$$h0le cop. :(
