bare with my newbness, i apologize in advance.... I'm going to be purchasing an 02-03 wrx near the end of this year and after doing some reading up on this car the weak tranny problem scares me a bit. I see that gruppe-s sells the sti 6 speed tranny w/ dccd for a whopping 7k =( and I am interested in this possible swap down the line when/if the power is too much for the oem tranny so I have a few questions...

can this tranny swap be done? and will it retain all the uses of it, namely the dccd?

how difficult is this swap? bolt-in? lots of custom fab?

and I plan to auto-x and track the car, will it qualify for any solo2 class (with the sti tranny in it)? and if it does, which class would I be in?

you dont have to fabricate anything all you need is a 4EAT proshaft and a 3.900 ring and pinion, everything is a very simple swap. But, plan on spending about 7k for a complete swap and set aside a weekend, cuz it will take at least that long.

good luck,
rance

I've done this swap in my '02 WRX

All you'll need if you buy from Gruppe-S (like I did) will be a ring and pinion gear from a 91 Legacy (3.9 ratio)
My driveshaft came with the tranny from Gruppe-S

I would suggest a light flywheel and heavier clutch... makes a difference
