I currently own a 2002 MBP WRX. I have a couple grand into modifications (nothing thats not reversable). Right now it's a Lease about 20K miles with 2 years left on the lease. I just graduated college and have a nice engineering job so I called my subaru dealership to see what it would cost to start paying to buy it out. the price to buy it out is 375 a month for 5 years, or I can trade it in for a 2004 wrx and pay 425 a month for 5 years. The new Legacy GT is in the same price range so it would be about the same as the new WRX.

later I figured out that if I wait out the lease (currently 303 a month) then finance for 3 years at the end of lease buyout I'll only be paying a max of $260 for those last 3 years.

breaking it down I have:
avg $330 month end up with a 2002 WRX after 5 years ($19,800 total)
avg $425 month end up with a 2004 WRX after 5 years ($25,500 total)
avg $425 month end up with a 2005 Legacy GT after 5 years ($25,500 total)

I'm really torn with what to do on one hand I love my current car and dont really want to have to spend a week or two undoing all my mods. It also has lots of dings and light scratches that are begining to wear on me. and on the other hand I love the 04 body style over the 02, and as far as the legacy it would prove to be a new exciting platform to build from.

what do you think? what would you do? I know it's my choice but I'm just overwhelmed right now any advice?

 

I would go for the Legacy GT.... actually... I did go for the Legacy GT.
I was in your shoes about 2 weeks ago.

For the money, you get much more car..... IMHO...

Usng only the cars you're asking for advice on, I'd say 05 Legacy GT over the 04 WRX, no question. In fact I just did that. I sold my 04 WRX two days ago and just today I bought a brand new 05 Legacy GT. If they're going to be near the same price get the Legacy. Trust me on this one. I loved my WRX but the Legacy is a whole other level of car, and it's faster too.

 

O5 GT, you won't be sorry. I have 1200 miles on my 05 GT wagon, 5-speed. It may not be as fast as your modify WRX. But the car is impressive. The only real complaint I have is I get a whistle (wind noise) from the outside mirror around 50mph. When I have the window down I can hear it.

Anybody else noticed that ? I'll do a post on that.

 

I was set on getting a 04 WRX, but drove the 05 Legacy GT....Im trying to get that now...hopefully 2 weeks.
Its a totally different ride/style than the WRX, but I think its better
