I have a 94 L awd with no engine or center drive shaft. I have a 5spd and ECU w/wireing from a 99L. Also have the two front axles from the 99L.

I would like to put an EJ20 in it but if I come accross an EJ22t some time i would love to drope that in there.

I am in the process of trying to buy a totaled WRX and i would have even more parts to work with if needed.

This is my first car to build from scratch. What else do i need to get this finished? What are my options because i will have a good collection of parts. Oh yeah the ECU on the WRX is a EcuTek reflashed ECU. So that would be able to be changed to my specs.

Any help would be great.

Since it's a '94, you may be better off getting the 2.2T in there and running. Depending on where you live, it's a completely legal swap since 1994 was the last year for the 2.2T. I've got a friend considering this route, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes for you. Wiring up a '02 ej20 to a '94 Impreza(?) is extremely complicated from what I've heard/read. You seem like you don't really have a plan set in stone, so you may want to do a bit more research before jumping in to any of these choices. I think the ej22T is your best bet though because the wiring should be extremely similar.

Of course i would rather go with the EJ22t. I could not find one with less then 100,000. Plus i could not find one with the complete wiring harness and ECU. I have no emissions test in Rockford, IL so legitness is not an issue.

Most of the time when you find a US WRX swap for sale, it's a complete drivetrain. That's definitely the way to go rather than sticking a strong motor on your puny little transmission.

But arent both tranny comparable in strength. The 99L tranny would have lower gear ratios. I was thinking all i would need is a stronger clutch for the NA tranny.

No, the NA transmissions aren't as strong as even the WRX gearbox.

There are quite a few USDM swaps running around on RS/L trannys.

There are also people running around with short ram intakes, AFCs, and altezzas. Doesn't make it the best course of action.

bwwwwwaahahahahaha that was funny i say use the wrx trans even if its not stronger it will be cheaper in the long run since you can use the factory wrx clutch and flywheel

At ~ $3500-$3900, you can pick up a JDM STi EJ20. That is 250-300 WHEEL hp right out of the boxt (depending on the dyno) Plus, it can be easily done to pass SMOG with few minor tweaks.

With a lightweight GC chassis and that power, you will be giggling for a while.
