Okay...
-Mio Vicino 1290 Benton in Santa Clara.. If you like Italian, run - don't walk.
-Cluck-U chicken near the U in Santa Clara.. Good stuff, fun name, fire!
-St. John's on Lawrence: best burgers and awesome cheesesteaks, fries etc.
-Cheesesteak place at Lawrence and Tasman in Sunnyvale - forgot the name but DAMN.
-Su's Mongolian on El Camino in Santa Clara: codename: 'the dirty stick'
-Rock Bottom in the Pruneyard, Campbell: awesome beer and everything else.
-Chipotle: yeah it's a chain, but holy carnitas batman!
-AG Ferrari at El Camino and Mathilda - great deli $andwiches and other stuff.
-Kabul on El Camino in Sunnyvale: mmmm Afghan snacks..
-Bay Sushi on Hollenbeck in Sunnyvale: kickass and walking distance from mi casa
-Michi Sushi on Winchester in Campbell: my favourite
-Kintani Sushi on Miller in Cupertino: wow, try the spicy monkey
-PF Chang's at El Camino and Mathilda in Sunnyvale.. Spendy but good if not a little yup. Try the ginger brocolli chicken. Zang.
That's a few, there's soooo many more. Don't even get me started on SF - that would be a whole new thread.. (But if you find yourself near 16th and Valencia, Arinells has the best pizza ever.) Snacks kick ***. Been making lunch pretty often to save time and $$ but since there seems to be a big group of folks in the area, we should meet for snacks one day. St. Johns would be great, outside seating for large groups and uhh.. Good food.
Lates..

-- Juan's Place in Berkeley -- Best sit down Mexican I've found in Bay Area
-- Adalberto's in Stockton -- Best fast food Mexican I've found in Bay Area
-- Zahir's Cafe -- Best formal dining in Milpitas (I don't do a LOT of formal dining, so I dunno about larger radius)
-- Ho Chow's -- Upscale chinese in South Fremont... MMMMM
-- Thai town in Ranch 99 center in Milpitas -- Best Thai in the area I've found, but you have to ask for it HOT, or else you get the crappy bland 'american thai' food. (like most thai restaurants) There are other 'Thai Town' restaurants, but all the others I've eaten at are absolute CRAP for thai food. I have no idea if any of them are affiliated in any way.
-- Sho Gun -- Sushi/Japanese on Marina blvd in San Leandro just east of 880, best I found in the Milpitas --> San Leandro area when I lived over there.
My 'hole in the wall' chinese place went out... it used to be next to Trader Joes on Santa Rita Road next to 580. I don't remember what it was called, but they had the best won ton soup ever, and I'll never get to eat it again
For Thai food, find a place that has a decent base dish quality, and keep going there until you can get the 'level of hotness' right. Thai food that isn't hot enough is not very good, and it's almost impossible to get thai food hot enough the first time you go to a new thai place. You pretty much have to beat them over the head that you want real thai food ... if you are white they'll always drop the hotness down a step or two from what you order.
I know this for a fact from the Thai roommates I had in college. If I went to a Thai restaurant with them and they asked for the food hot, it was HOT. If I went by myself and asked for hot, I'd get mild... at least until they got to know me. Once you have thai food the way it was meant to be enjoyed, you'll never go back to the regular stuff you get if you don't order it right.

This is one of the great things about Sacramento. There are a TON of excellent places for food.
* quick, cheapy dinner: Terryaki To Go. Howe Ave between Arden and Hurley.
* nice, reasonably priced dinner: Luccas (14/J), Centros (28/J) (both rock for lunch)
* expensive dinner: Biba (28th/capitol), Tunel 21 (vlades place - old town), Broiler Room (12/k - the governator loves this place)
* breakfast: most days it's Mels on Howe @ Fair Oaks. Brunch at Chevys on the river is always fun. Margaritas + tacos (the woman gets eggs benedict) = win.
* lunch: Upper Crust (between 11th and 12th on K), Luccas, Pyramid Brewery(11th/k), River City Brewery (end of the k street mall, first floor by macys for wimmenz)
* we be clubbin (bars and such): Harlows/Centros/Blue Cue (27th-28th/J), Ghallagers (12/k), Marilyns (live bands on weekends..this place rocks. 12/k (across from ghallagers), esquire (not sure..my gf loves this place), ink (been there, don't know the streets). Luccas has a sweet bar. Crawdads (below chevys on the river). We don't really go to clubs much so we just get drinks at some of the fun places near restaurants we go to..
aside from Chevys and Mels, those are just some of the good local places.
chains that rock: chilis (howe/arden or madison/sunrise), olive garden (challenge/arden or madison/sunrise), Chevys on the river (garden highway just down from Gateway Oaks), Cheesecake factory (arden mall parking lot), Macarroni Grill (alta arden (just up from compusa by the arden mall)..
I'm sure there's more, but I'm blanking.
Roseville:
Fats Asian Bistro, Carvers, River Rock Cafe
