WRX muffler whistles on my L
I just put on a WRX muffler on my 2.2. i reused my old gasket because it was at like 9:00 and didn't want to wait. But, when i rev it up and let off the gas there is a distinct whistle coming from the muffler. Sounds like a chirp kinda. It doesn't do it, or at least I can't hear it at any other speed. Any ideas? Normal?

Ya...there is a tiny hole in the muffler which would allow for the gases to make a whistling sound when the flow is right.
Almost all L's with a WRX muffler I have heard do it, so I would say its pretty common, and that its not the gaskets.

My last car had a problem like that. This hack did the exhaust for me and under load it would always whistle. Very annoying. The jerk never fixed it either, hope your problem isn't that bad. Doesn't sound like it.
And to think some people try to make there exhaust whistle:

I've don't have any whistle
I've had a WRX Muff on my 92 Legacy L for a few months, and no whistling. I had heard about the phenomenon but went ahead and did it anyway. I get a funny resonance every once and a while but other wise it sounds pretty good. I’ve got a sound clip if anybody is interested, the “Boxer Bark” is tremendously worse than the actual 200K Mi Legacy bite is.
Will a WRX muffler bolt on to a '95 L w/ the 1.8? I just got a coupe and it needs a muffler. Great time to get one for the WRX and move the stock one over if it works. My '03 WRX does that 'chirp' noise too FWIW.

No, you'll need to cut and reweld one of the flanges to fit the stock midpipe. And also lengthen one of the mounting hangers. Once you take your old muffler off, compare it to the new one, should be pretty clear. I have some pictures I can email you of the modification needed.
