GLwagon 11-23-2002, 08:07 AM http://csinburkinafaso.hitspot.net/temp.htm http://www.chemie.fu-berlin.de/chemistry/general/units_en.html#temp hotrod 11-23-2002, 04:29 PM TempF = (1.8 x TempC ) + 32 Do it in your head, double the TempC, subtract 10% of that number and add 32. TempC = 600 2x 600 = 1200 10% =120 1200 -120=1080 1080+32=1112 Larry PorscheWRX 11-23-2002, 05:29 PM Ok then what is a safe EGT reading in C and we can convert it to F with the given formulas. Where is this reading coming from? 1" from the head 1" from the turbo exhaust outlet or inlet? How much of a temp differnce will there be from each location? hotrod 11-23-2002, 08:21 PM My understanding is the best place to tap for the exhaust gas temp is about 6-8 inches from the port. If there is any uncombusted fuel in the cylinder it will afterburn in the exhaust port and you will see the highest temp numbers just down stream of the port. http://www.aera.org/Techside/exhaust%20gas%20temp.htm Larry PorscheWRX 11-24-2002, 07:51 AM Thanks for the link Larry. Scott Impreziv 11-24-2002, 09:01 AM When I was tuning my WRX by EGT, I was tuning for around 850 C which is equiv to about 1600 F That is what I believe is as hot as you wanna get. Also, where is your EGT probe tapped? If its in the third cylinder you'll be tuning for the hottest, which is what you idealy want. If its anywhere else your numbers will be lower than whats really going on. -Pete |
