View Full Version : Evo not that good!!!
Valaar 01-11-2003, 11:26 PM Has anybody checked out the specs on the new evo. Its got a frontmount. Mutch larger turbo. AND its running 19lbs of boost. With only 273 horses. If my subi was running 19lbs with a front mount It would have a lot more power than that. WEAK!
RSarte 01-12-2003, 10:58 AM Here's some pre-Autoshow pics I took of the Evo8. I did sit in it and and checked out the interior and for the most part..it's kinda cheap although the Recaros were excellent!! In all honesty... this version did not make me feel like I was sitting in a "supercar" or anything at that level.:(
But don't get me wrong... I still would like to own one..and maybe put an Evo6 bodykit on it.:D
btw.. I think the official stats is 271HP only. And the rep told me it might be out around mid-march or so.

here's more from here...

IgotWRXed 01-12-2003, 12:48 PM since 1lb of boost makes around 10hp, you would have more hp. but, even better, i think the 10hp is wheel horsepower, whereas the evo is at the crank.
JspecGC8 01-12-2003, 09:32 PM WEAK!!! HAHAHA Maybe the one they are sending stateside. But do not underestimate this car or you will have your (Insert word here ) handed to you seriously.
Kostamojen 01-12-2003, 11:55 PM Compaired to the USDM STI, the Evo leaves much to be desired...
IgotWRXed 01-13-2003, 12:55 AM isnt it kind of funny, how many jdm tuners do you think are going to try and pick up salvaged 2.5l engines out of our usdm cars. kinda ironic...jdm questing after our specs

Kicks ass that I live not to far from a major subaru recycler yard :) I can get first dibs on STI's if I wanted too, tehe :D
JspecGC8 01-13-2003, 02:17 AM Not hardly. The JDM STI easily pushes 300 horses even tho its not a 2.5. Also Jun built a 2.5 but it was OWNED by an Evo. Besides I like the 2.0 in mine its an original not a remake!!!
Kostamojen 01-14-2003, 01:11 AM Yes but the evo that owned it was 280hp and has all the neat gadgets. Our Evo will not be comparible. Our STI on the other hand, is closer to a spec-C STI than a regular JDM STI, exept with an EJ25 of course.

Jun 2.5 GDA Vs Jun Evo
Winner Evo fact not fiction
And the Evo had less HP
Dont believe me look up Option Magazine.

Are you talking about aftermarket cars? Or do you mean JDM when you say Jun?

Either way, compairing tuned cars is quite different then compairing stock cars, let alone compairing the JDM STI and JDM EVO VII with the USDM STI and USDM EVO VIII... I dont think that article applies in the least to the USDM debate.
JspecGC8 01-19-2003, 01:27 AM The only reason I said it was due to the Jun Rex having a 2.5L. I am just saying that I would not underestimate the Evo even tho you will have .5 L more than the Evo has.
ellisnc 01-19-2003, 04:31 AM AFAIK Jun hasn't run the GDB Super Lemon that hard yet. The video you see on the website was basically a shake down run as you can tell the driver wasn't pushing much at all compared to the Evo5 run.
Also how much longer have they had to tune that Evo5 that holds the Tsukuba record? 4-5 years? The GDB has just been run recently for the first time.
JspecGC8 01-19-2003, 05:38 AM Three seconds is an eternity in Circuit racing and it is a huge amount of time to make up. I will be waiting to see what they can get out of the STi. They are still tuning both cars so the Rex has alot of work to do!!! Also the Rex was slower than the GT-R as well and they pushed the crap out of the car I have the video from option magazine. But back to the main point I am just saying dont underestimate the Evo.
1FSTBXR4 01-25-2003, 06:09 PM the evo will be badass...I think the HP# is off just like the neon. Manufacturers don't compensate for the larger FMIC. The neon put down 233hp to the ground according to SCC and it was rated at 217hp from the factory. The evo VII in japan "supposedly had 280hp" however almost everyone who has driven one over here OR over there says it's closer to 315Hp, so we will see, I like the red, I may get that color instead of black.
Mine will be here end of Feb.
1FSTBXR4 01-25-2003, 06:12 PM let's not forget that our WRX's interior isn't class leading either, so I don't think that the evo's interior will be cheaper than the WRX's
Kostamojen 01-27-2003, 12:16 AM Have you been in a Lancer yet? IMHO, it would take a hell of alot to make that interior livable even compaired to an Impreza...

Too True man riding in one is no picknic either they are really stiff.
Woogie099 01-28-2003, 09:37 PM Doesn't anyone think it is interesting that if the same level of performance was applies to a 2.5 liter block in the EVo as the 2.0, it would put out (1.25*271=339 hp)
That's right, it would have almost 340 hp, and I am sure it would have more torque considering the redline on the EVO is lower than on the STI. That said, I am a little suprised that the EVO weighs something like 3200-3300 pounds. That is a lot more than I was expecting for such a small car. Just my .02
EVOBOY 12-14-2003, 07:02 PM u suck
serrano 12-15-2003, 02:45 AM What the hell... did you actually go and dig up a year old thread to troll around?
:o
awns729 12-16-2003, 10:32 PM what the hell, im gonna share what ive heard now that evoboy has bumped this...ive heard that evo owners are having serious warranty claim issues and dealers are being real aholes...it is however a great car to own...just as good as the STi, so it all comes down to personal preference/brand loyalty.
meilers 12-17-2003, 03:20 PM Not to engage in any Mitsubishi bashing -- the EVO is an awesome ride, though too darty for a daily driver -- but I thought I'd tell an entertaining Lancer story...
A few weeks ago I was at the mall and walking to my car, and a nicely-painted Lancer with 17" wheels rolls up, looking really good (for a Plain Jane car)... It even looked lowered, like coilovers or a nice 1" drop. Then it stopped and four dudes got out.
I looked again. It wasn't lowered anymore :D It was just the weight of the people in the car that dropped it!
moogle 01-23-2004, 12:11 AM Sorry for the bump.
Just did a search on evo... and this the only thread that has it.
If your still reading valaar now that its a year from ur first post and evo won many awards including car of the year on 2 mags do u still think its weak? Or does anyone else think the same as valaar. Just curiosity I am not starting no flames
downshift 01-23-2004, 12:47 AM the STi and EVO weigh the same.
more horsepower doesnt always mean quicker.
Kevin M 01-23-2004, 02:06 PM The Evo doesn't suck. Period.
I'd still rather have an STi (well, technically I'm building one I guess). :p
:monkey: to all trolls. Go back to ClubSi where you belong.
Superdave17 01-24-2004, 11:56 AM Build quality is what I would be looking for in a car of this type. Subaru's tend to be built with a little more attention for reliabilty(Except for the USDM 5MT). I have yet to see or hear of any problems that plague the EVO VIII. Because your going to be using your feet and right arm allot in these cars. Thats why a Neon is not even in my sights, I've heard some horror stories involving the clutch on the Neons. I'd like to see the Spec-C engine available in the U.S. market. 2.0 evo vs 2.0 wrx would be a nice comparision. Remember there is no replacement for displacement. The Subaru has the tuner advantage, so I would go with Subaru based that potential.
Boost21 01-24-2004, 11:34 PM So what is the msrp on the new EvO RS?
Kevin M 01-25-2004, 04:25 PM About $1,000 less than the regular model. The only reason for buying an RS though is to build a rally car. It has no AC, no ABS, no power accessories, and still only manages to weigh about 100 pounds less. Oh yeah, no radio either.

Long story short... I was coming home the one night from work, saw these wierd headlights behind me.. he was RIGHT on my butt... I said wtf is this?! He pulls up beside me, I notice the clear tail lights and the wing and I scream "omg that's an evo" (only because I have never seen one in person before) he looks at me and then just takes off... we were going around 80mph, and he took off like I was standing still... I was amazed. I tried to keep up but it was a lost cause, he was gone and kept going....
:-(

IcemanSS454 01-29-2004, 01:23 PM Actually the EVO RS is just under $26,000 so thats like $3,000 cheaper than the regular evo. And yes it only looses a little more than 100 pounds but it does gain a limited slip front diff. Motor Trend tested one 0-60 in 4.4 which is awesome considering they tested the regular evo at 5.0. Yes the evo especially in RS form would not be as easy to live with as a WRX STi but if I were in the market for a race car the RS would be my choice. It costs about the same that I purchased my WRX for. I would much rather have the WRX as my daily driver though.
downshift 01-30-2004, 03:53 PM $26,000 plus tax is another $2000 in cali.
total would be about $28,000 or so
WRX is still cheaper
but hey EVO RS is definitely one of the best bang for the bucks.
awns729 01-31-2004, 12:17 PM Dude, its not like you dont have to pay that 2000$ tax on the rex
JspecGC8 02-01-2004, 05:51 AM For those out of the know the JUN Evo got ousted by the HKS Evo VIII. Ran a 55 flat.
EVOBOY 11-24-2004, 02:20 AM bump go EVO~!!!
SuzWRX 11-24-2004, 06:20 PM haha jason compared to your car the evo is ****...lol
JspecGC8 11-27-2004, 07:09 AM Wow and I thought this thread was dead!!
dcfc03 11-27-2004, 08:48 PM with that title I thought this thread would have died long ago?
