hey, i hear that we are supposed to reset our ECUs after each mod... How is it beneficial? if it is, how do i do it? thanks guys.

reseting the ecu pretty much makes the ecu relearn everything instead of waiting for it to slowly adjust.

Quick rundown. Disconnect negative side of battery, press brake pedal until taillights go out. Reconnect battery. Drive aggressively for the next 50 miles for a more aggressive learn. I made a huge difference to do this after my downpipe was installed.

Also, it only resets your trip odometer.

You could also perform the "Vishnu Reset" that will instantly max out the timing advance so you don't have to wait for learning. Search for how to do it, it's pretty simple.

Well, driving aggressively for the first 50 miles probably yeilds similar results, but the vishnu way is most likely quicker. If you do reset it the only way you'll notice a power difference is if the ignition multiplier retarded timing due to knock(bad gas), otherwise AFAIK there shouldn't be any noticable difference.

oh and if the timing has been retarded and you do the vishnu trick it will advance the multiplier to + 12-i think (default after reset is 8, vishnu trick increases it)...search for the vishnu advance multiplier trick which has all the info you need.

don't reset too much.

become accustomed to the feel of pulled timing... flat spots in the torque curve. they are your clue as to where knock is occuring, and that something isn't quite right. resetting your ecu to "cure" the problem puts your engine at more risk, since the knock will likely happen again, and it must before the timing is accordingly re-pulled.

your ecu will ALWAYS attempt to advance the IAM, and it will slowly readvance the learned knock zones... resetting just helps it along its way.

in case you haven't noticed, i am of the persuasion that the least amount of resetting the better. in the case of a bunch of modding to open intake/exhaust, then go ahead an do it.
