I bought a Cobb Tuning high flow cat for my 2000 Impreza right before xmas. Installed it a couple of days after, and it's rattling already. I spoke with Cobb and they told me to send it back and they will fix it. How do I know that it won't break in another 2 weeks.

I know that high flow cats are fragile but this is ridiculous. I haven't bottomed it out on anything. Haven't driven hard lately other than getting onto the GSP, and then I hit 75 and it sits in 5th for 10 miles to where i need to go.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how i can keep this from happening again.

They offered to replace it without any persuading, so you don't really have that much to be mad about. Stuff happens, but they are handling well. Give the other one a chance. If it happens again, I'm sure they will refund you. No worries mate.

I am very happy with Cobb's customer service. I'm just mad that it broke in less than 3 weeks. Lets see how the new one fares and if it takes a crap too we'll see if they can upgrade me to Random Technology, or as you mentioned a refund. Thanks.

I can guess what happened, the heat shield on the upper side probably needes to be re tac welded. Happend to mine an a few other peoples. I just took it to Midas and they just tacked it back on for 10 bucks. It was worth it rather than taking off the whole thing.

Yep, i'm an idiot. I got under the car today and found out that the cat wasn't rattling, the brackets that hold it under the car were, because the bolt that goes through the brackets backed out and said goodbye. Thanks for the help guys.

culcoment – Glad it was an easy fix. It was surprising to me since we have not had any failures with the new ones.

Peaty – If I recall you got one of the original Random Tech units with the flex joint in it. We heard of that happening to several people.

You are right, it was sort of common with the first units. the fix was easy though.
