They were seven nymphs who were beautiful god-like spirits. The seven sisters were Alcyone, Merope, Celaeno, Taygeta, Maia, Electra, and Asterope. The beauty of the seven sisters caught the eye of Orion the hunter who continually chased after them. Eventually the God of all the gods Zeus saw that they may be in danger and changed them all into doves so that they could escape by flying away into the heavens. Hence the name Pleiades was given to the cluster for it means “dove” in Greek. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw a car call Electra I wonder if subaru call the next gen of car with the name of the star. Really the name is the most original i ever heard. Nick Koan 04-01-2004, 07:49 PM Originally posted by voyager2000 I saw a car call Electra I wonder if subaru call the next gen of car with the name of the star. Really the name is the most original i ever heard. Subaru had called the XT-6/SVX the Alcyone in Japan. The name Subaru, is also interesting. The word literally means 'unite' or 'congregate.' Some regional variations of the name, Sumaru and Suharu also carry the same meaning. The name was chosen when FHI was formed out the merger of 6 heavy industry companies in the 50s. 5FHM214 04-01-2004, 08:19 PM They already have a subaru electra. It's the STI Electra. Look it up.
