View Full Version : (how much for EJ20 swap into) 2000 Impreza 2.5 RS
super_mut 03-24-2004, 09:26 PM How much woulud a Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS 2000 cost if I bought it used. Also the only thing i like about the 2000 2.5 is that body style and I would like to drop in a WRX engine in it. How much would this total up if I had everything installed professionally. Oh, and the base price of the Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS 2000. Thanks guys.
DetailAddict 03-24-2004, 10:00 PM www.kbb.com would be a good place to start. I THINK i-speed does the swap for 7k
super_mut 03-24-2004, 11:31 PM what about engines that come from wrecked wrx's? i am jsut curious about the labor cost

Thats a tough one to call. I'd guess around 3k - 5k maybe? Labor around the same. My guess is that most places can do it for the entire swap around 8k - 9k. 7k sounds a touch low, but not unreasonable.
Thats only for the motor too. The transmission (if you want a WRX tranny too) will probably cost an extra 2k-3k.
super_mut 03-25-2004, 10:18 PM personally, would you guys do something like that or no?
Solarian 03-25-2004, 11:36 PM Honestly, I would dish out the extra bucks and go brand new or two years old at most for warranty, longevity, etc.
I could sell my truck right now and get a four year old RS, but I'm gonna wait and work two summers to get new. Just seems better in the long run.
that1guy 03-26-2004, 02:26 AM Swap of engine and tranny? or just the engine itself?
Right now a used 2000 rs... if you could find one at a dealership would probably go for around 12 - 14k... maybe more... private sellers sell way cheaper than that usually tho.
Imprezer 03-26-2004, 02:47 AM I would talk to Adam@LIC about your swap.
gpatmac 03-26-2004, 02:51 AM Better yet, swap a JDM v7 STI drivetrain (engine, tranny, suspension, brakes) into an old beater L.:D You oughta be able to find one for $1k. Maybe less. Then the STI stuff would be less than $8 or $10k.
wrexr 03-26-2004, 02:58 AM Here's a quick link to what you are looking for.
EJ20 usdm or STI. Adam can do it. They don't call him McGyver for nothing.

I did the swap over a year ago and have never looked back....RS conversions seem to get more attention than WRX's....quicker gearing...lighter chassis....2 door model....
here's a link to my ride...

Everything comes down to what you want to do and ofcourse $$$$. Depending on your situation, a conversion can either be economical choice and it can be an expensive one. If you own the car already and really don't want to let go of your baby, then a conversion makes sense. Now if you're buying an RS at full price, say around $14k then adding another $7.5k for a stock conversion, it begins to add up to more than a used WRX. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to deter anyone since it's my livelyhood, but I'm just being honest and pointing out some things to consider. So, I would say figure out what you would like to have in the long run. Just another modded WRX or something a little more unique that will always put a smile on your face :D

super_mut 03-27-2004, 02:53 PM Now thats a hot ride, and thanks for the input guys...I'm workin right now toward an RS 2.5 so lets only hope heh
cleofis 03-29-2004, 10:42 PM how much do you guys think would be involved for the sti motor swap? i know wrxs are around 7, but i also hear that the sti would be around 10 ro 11gs...
LIC Motorsports 03-30-2004, 11:47 AM cleofis:
STi swaps are definately going to cost more than a WRX swap, this is based on cost for the parts and not to mention the wiring will be more involved. Until I do one, I can't be too accurate on price, but from what you said ($10-11k) is not too far off. It's possible the parts alone could cost that much. :( Then add in the labor to do the swap, it could become $13-15k. Put this all into an RS and you're still quite less $$$ than a new STi. Plus it would be lighter, faster and cheeper to insure! :D
Hmmm.....who wants to be first? ;)

My STi Ver. III GF8 conversion cost ~ 10k USD from Lachute Subaru in Quebec a few years ago.
I didn't get the swap done myself but I bought it from a friend.
I love my car because it's everything I want in a car; powerful, sleeper factor, classic styling & cargo room. :D
I wouldn't trade her for the world. She's all mine and that's a great thing. :p
