Daytime running lights idea...
After replacing my stock bulbs with some rather expensive upgrade bulbs, I am unhappy about having them shine during the daytime, shortening their life. However, I don't want to give up the actual benefit of increased visibility you get from this feature.
So, what if I deactivated the headlights as my daytime lights, but activated the small orange parking/running lights at the top of the headlight cluster? Obviously this would involve splicing some wiring from the headlight harness into the parking light harness... Anyway, has anyone attempted this? One of you wiring monkeys has to have a solution...

dude you gave me a great idea...
to do what your saying your going to have to take out the bulb socket for the blinker and put in a socket that can handle a dual filimint bulb ... the dual fii. socket will have one extra wire that you'll have to tap into constant power and walla..
the look will resemble those cars thats day time runner lights are amber..... but will also signal.. bllink
yUm... im on it this weekend... i have good experance with this stuff as i did some simular lighting stuff with my integra...

Before i would have to lift the E brake a lil to turn them off.
Just disconnect the DRL under the glove box.

No, that wouldn't create the effect that I want. If I turn on the parking lights, I would also have my tail lights and side marker lights on. I only want the front parking lights/turn signals to go on, as my "daytime running lights" instead of my headlights.

its hard to explain if you have no idea what a dual filament bulb or socket is and its differences are from a single but hope that i said something useful...

Meilers-
I see that you are from Arizona. i don't know the laws there, but I believe that in California, it is illegal to drive with just your parking lights on. But if you wire it so that just the front parking lights are on and not the rears, you might be okay. I'd look into it a bit more before doing anything.

Thanks for reminding me about that. I've decided it isn't worth the hassle, and just disabled the DRL; initially, I forgot that the forward amber lights are actually used as the turn signals.
The lights that I am actually curious about are the tiny clear lights to the outside of the headlights, which seem to have no function at all. These are actually better candidates for becoming replacement DRLs, but they are far too dim.
California is way too car- and rule-obsessed of a state. I realize they have more cars than any state in the nation, but telling people when they can and can't have their parking lights on is starting to seem less like law enforcement and more like nitpicking.
