Anyone interested?

Drag strip launches are very hard on the drivetrain, especially the clutch and tranny internals. If high-RPM drag starts are done too frequently, you can expect a shortened life from these components.

I'll be there. :D

It'll give me a chance to make sure everything is running as it should be before Buttonwillow.

If you don't get into 14's with Cobb Stage 1, you have bigger problems :)

(like the fact that an automatic Outback can beat you coming out of the lights ;))

I'll be coming out to watch and laugh! I have never seen a WRX do a drag strip before. What time do they start at.....5?

Gates open at 4:30pm, timing runs start ~5:00pm. We usually arrive before 5:00 to go through tech inspection.

Sac Raceway Wednesday Night Drags (http://www.sacramentoraceway.com/sacwednite.htm).

To those who expect to turn 13.99 or quicker E.T.s, don't forget your helmet. You can also rent one at Sac Raceway.

you can rent helmets at the raceway? How much?

This sorta sucks - I may have a conflict. When I made this thread I had no job interviews scheduled for that week - now I have 3. I have to pick up my suit Wed.

I'll see if I can get it Thurs :(

I think it was not more than $20 but to be safe you should call and try to ask someone about availability. I doubt that they have more than a handful laying around since most people that go regularly own their own helmets.

I think you should pick up your suit, M. If there's a problem with the fit you'll have to give them time for alterations. The job interviews are for your livelihood, so that's important.

The Wednesday Night drags will be there every week, throughout summer and fall. Just post up when you want to go out there again.

I will probably still go anyway just in case there are some members who want to make a ¼-mile pass for the first time.

I hope the fit is right - it's going to take until Wednesday to get the alterations complete. If it doesn't fit right on Wed. I'm toast :(

That's cause launching autos is easy. I beat just about every car off the line. Whether or not I stay in front is another story. :p

I'm still going unless weather.com forecasts showers or rain for the evening. I should be there by about 4:30-ish. I'm staying for the time runs only, not for eliminations later in the evening.

For those who are going to make runs, be sure to bring a ball point pen to fill out the tech card, otherwise it can be a bit of a wait for other drag racers to get done filling out their cards.

Cost is the same no matter how many runs are made.

I can't stay late because I have to wake up early the next morning for work.

That was a nice get-together tonight with our local guys and gals. :)

At least I got one decent run. Missed a shift on my second and final run but my car is running well and I'm satisfied.

I get home to a phone message stating that my 07:00 physical therapy appointment is cancelled again because she's still serving on a jury. Drat, I could've stayed longer tonight...

I'll see you all on Saturday.

That's another huge amount of improvement. Judging by your trap speed, there may be a little more there. It depends how much you want to beat the crap outta your car.

I was rather surprised by how well my car ran (though only a tad disappointed in my own skill- I was about where I expected to be). First run, I was way slow off the line, missed 2 shifts, and managed a 15.5. Second run was still slow out of the gate, but I shifted cleanly and managed a 15.4. So, for eliminations, I dialed it at 15.3, because I figured that was being a bit conservative still. Nope. Even with a decrepit 2.01 60 foot time, I managed a 15.27@87. I am convinced that my RS, with all of headers, catback, and intake for mods, can run 14.9@90 with a 1.8 60 foot time.

Congrats! I was surprised to hear how well you did on even the first run, taking into account no turbo and no drag strip experience. I forgot to mention that when my WRX was unmodded, my best run was... 15.2 at 89 mph. I wonder if your RS is typical of others with similar mods, or maybe you got a really good 'Monday' car?

Well, as I just found out yesterday when trying to use DeltaDash on my car, I apparently have a very rare ECU. It's not even supported by DeltaDash yet. Maybe it's just a little more aggressive than some others.

Ive seen several RS's run ~15.3 now at Sac Raceway. Scott got his down to 15.1, but another guy whose name ive forgoten ran a 15.3 with just a cobb intake and N1 catback.

As for getting a 1.8 60 foot with an RS, I have yet to see that happen.

Wingless Wonder
02-06-2004, 05:57 PM
That's an awful lot of drivetrain abuse. I've been lucky so far but I think that too much drag racing will spell doom (or d00m) for my tranny and clutch. I would be wise to limit my ¼-mile passes down the drag strip.

Okay, I'll go. :p

I figure I oughtta do it while I can. Since I'm replacing my gearbox anyway, the worst that can happen is I can't sell it later. Drat. Besides, I need to put that upgraded clutch to good use while I can. I may end up going back to OEM on the 6 speed.
