This is quite a pickle I'm in!
I have been seriously considering buying a STI because my financial situation has greatly improved recently.
However, I cannot convince myself to get rid of the one car I swore never to sell. I have paid off my 2001 RS and having no car payment is very nice.
But since I am a guy, and like cars, I get bored easily.
If I do buy the STI it will be my daily driver and will not be garage kept.
So my question is:
Should I keep my FREE RS and continue putting $ into it,
or spoil myself with a brand new STI?

are you situated enough to keep the RS and still buy an STi? or keep the RS and pick up a WRX and mod the isht out of it? since you live in Roseville, you could probably get S-Squared to do a VF34/injectors/pump/up-pipe/reflash type kit for a reasonable price.
i can see why you'd want to hang on to an 01 RS, those are really nice looking.

you have to keep that RS. you are going to kick yourself in the nutz later on, i know you will.
mod the RS. If legality is an issue, do a motor swap... hell,
Get 04 STi engine, drive train and ECU and swap that whole thing out... now you have a 12.8 car that's smog legal.

I figured everybody would say "STI ALL THE WAY".
I know I have a bit of a rare car and I agree with The Dude that I will be kicking my own nutz later. I can afford to keep the RS and buy a WRX but would have to make many sacrifices and I don't want to do that.
I could always take out a personal loan from my bank and build a MONSTER RS. This will most likely save me lots of $ in the long run.

Get an STi. No offense to RS guys, but a bolted on turbo just ain't the same as the STi. You'd have to put $20k into the RS to approach the STi reliability, handling, braking, and even powerwise. Don't kid yourself that modding the RS would save you money in the long run. Then what do you have...an old modded econobox.
Unless you want to have a project car of course. And don't care about flushing money on a modded RS. Not that the STi will be an investment...but you'll have a warranty and a decent resale.

I propse:
Buy STi and keep the RS. Keep the STi stock. Don't mod it, its a monster to begin with. When you get 'bored' with the STi, mod the RS. Mod it to the moon if you want something to keep you occupied. When the RS becomes a monster and loses some of its reliability, you still got a reliable STi.
It could be like having two girlfriends who don't get jealous.

i say keep the RS (unmodded) and get another fun type-o-car.
s2000 goes vroooooooom

I'd keep the RS.
Exclusivity. STi's will come and go but the GC will never again see production. The RS's seem to become more rare every year while STi's will keep coming.
I like the rarity.
