View Full Version : Does anyone know if the Tranny from.. Speed Element 11-22-2002, 02:48 PM A JDM MY01 Wagon (standard WRX) is the same as the standard US tranny (Sedan and Wagon)??? Mike Imprezer 11-22-2002, 03:37 PM Same as in how? What are you trying to compare? - Alex Speed Element 11-22-2002, 03:42 PM Well basically is it the same transmission as we get here, fitment wise? I have the option to pickup a JDM MY01 WRX (non STI) wagon tranny in mint condition for pretty cheap and would like to know if anyone knows if it'll fit? Mike Its not as good as the US version. 3rd gear is higher. Mike (510) 487-4447 www.mpjperformance.com Imprezer 11-22-2002, 05:36 PM It will fit. I am not sure what the final drive ratio is on it though. But it will physically fit. - Alex Speed Element 11-22-2002, 05:42 PM Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if there is anything else we will need with it to make it work on a US spec WRX that we are cobbling together? Mike Imprezer 11-22-2002, 05:45 PM If the final drive ratio is not the same which I am pretty sure it isn't, you will need a ring and pinion for the rear diff. The US tranny has a funky 3.52 or something like that for a final drive. There is a reguction gear in the rear housing of the tranny. The JDM one is probably 3.9 or 4.1. - Alex Wheels 11-22-2002, 05:51 PM it will fit wagon and the final drive is the same. You just need to bult it in. Now the 02 European is the same. Down to every gear. Speed Element 11-22-2002, 05:54 PM Originally posted by Wheels it will fit wagon and the final drive is the same. You just need to bult it in. Now the 02 European is the same. (not 100%) BADWRX 11-23-2002, 08:10 AM Same tranny...as Alex stated, but, if the center diff is a 1:1, then you are going to need a rear 3.90. If the ratio is 1.1:1, wich I am almost certain it is, then I have a feeling that it is the same. Once you find that out...then you will know your answer. Mike, how much are they asking for the tranny...you should be able to move it easily because of all of the broken trannys! Andy BADWRX 11-23-2002, 08:12 AM Originally posted by Wheels I believe the drive shafts are diffrent size. (not 100%) No, I am 100% certain that they are the same! The 6MT is the longer housing, so it has the shorter driveshaft...trust me! Andy Speed Element 11-23-2002, 11:00 AM Originally posted by BADWRX No, I am 100% certain that they are the same! Mike dwx 11-23-2002, 10:43 PM The 2003 WRX wagon in Japan uses a 4.44 final drive and I thought it used one in 2001/2 as well but I'm not 100% certain. They generally received the shorter ratio gearboxes along with Australia.
