I have a 2002 WRX and I have had some electrical issues but that is not what I want to talk about. I want to get a new battery for my car that is a little stronger. I want somehting that is radio/amp friendly but also somethign that is goign to do well for cold starts.

What are some good batteries that I can purchase that are easy slip ins to the 2002 WRX that will give me more juice for what I need?

Ok what type of Optima? Which one is the one that will fit the best? I want to try and get something that will sip into the existing battery holder if possiable.



Well I hooked up those lights that you see on e-bay. They are black with dual small headlamps. Well when I hooked them up originally there was not enough juice to power the brights caause when I turned them on both lights just dimed. So I rewired for one bulb to be normal and the other to be my brights and just played with the directions of each.

Well soon I found out the hard way that they were drainig power on me. While at stop- say in traffic my volts will drop down below 13 and sometimes below 12V. I hit bad traffic one day and the car just stalled out cause the battery got too drained. I think between some interior lights, my amp for speakers and amp for sub and the lights it is draining too much juice. Maybe it is the alternator but normally it sits at 13V so I am nto sure. I should probably go back to the stock headlights.

Oh where can you buy Optimas?

Like I said in your other post, Optima has a new yellow top for sport compacts that is half the weight and size of the regular battery. Great for stereo systems. I have seen them for sale through summit racing.

Go for the Optima Yellow top. Some one posted a web site a while back with great pricing I forget the URL but I'll try to seach it out.

Why yellow top??? YOu guys are confusing me here. I thought red top was the one that fit and worked best? A red top 35 (reverse terminals if they have that or if that exists)

I can not find many places online that sell these batteries. At least not a 35R

The Redtop should be fine - it's a standard replacement battery (you can even get them at Costco now BTW !!!)

Yellow Top is meant for cars with lot's of accessories that need to be powered (even with the car not running) It can be power cycled without effecting the battery unlike standard batteries. Their literature states that vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks usually benefit with the yellow tops.

Either would prob. be an improvement over the stock battery

The optima line of batteries are marine batteries. Most boats don't have an alternator so you just charge them and they hold a charge for awhile. Therefore, any boat/marine shop should have them too. They WILL turn over in the cold... i've been on boats in alaska with these batteries.

I wanted something that I could just drop in and have it work but nobody seems to offer the reverse terminal type 35 red top battery. And I would have to do modifiations to make the regular 35 type work. The terminals are on the wrong sides

look into the optima RED top. it's a direct replacement for the stock impreza battery. with the yellow top, you might have to mod the battery tray or rods to get it to fit correctly. i went with the red top and it took 5 mintues to swap it out.

Car is in the shop for two weeks waitign for a part from Subaru to fix a fuel leak. They told me it is a common problem in the WRX when the temperature falls below 14 degrees.
