View Full Version : STI-style shifter trim?
Anyone know where I can buy an STI-style shifter trim that's totally blank?
I spoke with Autospeed Performance (they make the WRX and Impreza trim) but they wont make one without their logo. I want totally blank. Anyone know a machine shop or other source that could help me out?
hokusai 01-06-2004, 11:30 AM I dont know of any machine shop but there is another alternative. Buy the replica (or the cheapest one you can find) and just fill in the logo and repaint it. Its not that hard. If you're local, i'll help you do it.

Repaint it, what color? An aluminum looking paint?

I am assuming he is talkin about the same color paint as whats on there right now. The only thing different about it would be that it would have no 'STi' Logo

hokusai 01-07-2004, 12:46 PM yea. the same aluminum looking paint color. i've seen it before in a kragen. also, i sprayed a dash part with it before and it looks pretty similar.
Sounds good. I just ordered it!
hokusai 01-07-2004, 12:58 PM So are you gonna do it your self or did you want help?

MikalsWRX 01-07-2004, 07:12 PM Well if its just flat all around and not bevelled then you can just turn it over and put the logo face down. laters Mikal

I had been thinking that myself. I guess I'll find out in a few days. :D

I'd be down for a hand but I now live in the deep dark recesses of North Bay (although I still work in the city). I'll probably just do it myself, but thanks for the offer. I'll gladly hit you up if I've got questions though. :D
hokusai 01-07-2004, 08:31 PM you cant turn it upside down because there are notches on the underside so that you can screw in the plate into your console. it kinda looks like this:

Okay, first question.... what to fill the engraving with?
hokusai 01-08-2004, 06:58 PM I have this big 'ol can of Ultimate Cote glazing putty. It dries id 15 minutes and it sticks to aluminum, metal, galvanized steel, fiberglass, etc. So far it works pretty well. I bought it from Tap plastics in san francisco. Their website is:
www.tapplastics.com
I buy a lot of display stuff from Tap Plastics. Just walked into Kragen, I never noticed all their painting/bondo supplies. Should be enough to play around with. This is gonna be fun!
So, I've got the damn thing bondod, primered, and painted and I'm looking for install instructions when I find this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33705&item=2453430737
Well, I'll be damned. That's what I was looking for. I have to say, I did a good job with the bondo and my paint job looks good but it doesnt match the console perfectly. Looks more steel than the brushed aluminum look of the console. I'm going to buy one of these on eBay and install whichever looks best. :D
Zoeb2s 01-13-2004, 02:48 PM Post pictures when you are done, I wanna see how it comes out.

My handy work is the one on the right. Although it came out pretty good in the picture it probably would need to be sanded and re-painted. I got a bit heavy with the silver paint on one corner. Speaking of which, if anyone's interested I don't know what to do with it now that I installed the new trim.

Now onto the installation of this new trim... Wow, the finish is beautiful and the instructions are extremely detailed and easy to follow. It doesnt require any trimming and fits perfectly. I am really happy that I found this before I started dremeling my console to make the other one fit. And it matches my shift knob almost perfectly. Big props to Dropped Clutch for a great product!
