This afternoon when I started the car, I noticed afterwards a cigarette smell inside the car. It was a pretty strong odor and lingered inside for several hours. I opened all the windows as i drived, but when I parked the car and came back 2 hours later, the smell filled the whole cabin. I tried to look for the source but to no avail. I don't smoke, and neither has any of my passengers. I checked the radiator and intercooler for any cigarette butts, a/c vents, and everything seemed normal. Anyone know where the smell could be coming from? I think I got several hours of second hand smoke from driving my car :(

I've found cigarette butts lodged in my air filter before. Dunno if that would cause that strong of a smell though.

:monkey: people tossing butts out their windows

Can you smell it from outside of the car at all? Did you check the cowling in front of the windshield where the cabin gets its fresh air?

After doing a second check with the car turned off, I can smell a bit coming from the middle a/c vents. But when I turn on the a/c I don't smell anything

just wondering, did someone dump say ashes in your vents under your window ?

Possibly

I still can't figure out the cause, although I am positive it is coming from the inside a/c middle vents. Only smells when I turn on the car (not necessarily with the a/c on). I checked the air filter today and no cigarette butts or smell or anything.

If I knew of any friends who smoked, who had ridden in the car recently before the smell emerged they would all get asswhoopings!

probably not the clutch since it only happens when he turns the car on, and it's a distinct cigarette smell...

Does anyone else drive your car, park it for you?

nope I'm the only one who drives it, nobody smokes in my car. I'm guessing someone threw a cigarette butt out the window and it landed somewhere inside the hood :(

Ahhh....after warming up my car today, I look over to the passenger side floor and what do I see? A cigarette butt! I'm guessing someone musta stepped on a cigarette, had it stuck on their shoe, and once they stepped inside it left itself on the floor. Still can't figure out why I smelled it from the vent though  Oh well, I'm happy the smell sorta went away

After all that it was just in the passenger side footwell

Well at least it's gone... Just invest in some good air freshener...
