Just wanted to say hi to everyone here. I recently bought (about two months ago) a black WRX sport wagon. It's stock, but hopefully only temporarily :)
Went down to HRP about a month ago and met some other owners. Got a few helpful pointers...thanks to whoever gave me those pointers. I'm still learning, but it was a HUGE help.
Looking forward to the next club meet...and hope to see you guys at the tracks soon!
P.S. Congrats to Rexstang...12 seconds! Something for me to shoot for!

Thanx, If you want to do a test and tune, go and get a mod or 2 and we'll all get together and put it on for ya. Gotta start somewhere. Its a good op to meet everyone and have stuff done to your car for free. Welcome to the addiction.

yeah, what he said!
If you need help with something, just ask. Somebody is usually always available to help, and it will keep the costs down when you're putting parts on your car. (well, you may have to buy a Mocha Blast or two ;) ) The times we get together for parts installs are good times to learn a lot about your car! Probably more than you ever wanted to know! ;) :D
so when are you gonna go run dowm the 1/4 mile??? ;) :D

Welcome!
The guys are right, we're the ones to talk to when it comes time to do a little work and a little learning. If you ever have questions, don't be afraid to ask. We don't freak out like those Nazioc guys. I sometimes get to technical with my explanations for most people, but Sean (Nolimit) and Mike (whatever he's using... AWD Culture or 18hr) do a good job at puting things in lay-mans terms.
Any chance I get to prove that I'm a complete motorhead GEEK is welcome.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
I actually did get a few runs in when I went to HRP that one time.
Don't laugh k? But my best time was a 16.0. My reaction time sucked. I think I had brain overload...trying to remember too many things, and trying to not get yelled at by the guy at the starting line. Sorry excuse yeah? :) Anyway, I'm hoping to get down to the tracks again soon, now that I've gotten a better feel for my car.
I will definitely give you guys a holler for some help when I'm ready to do some work on my car. Still kinda strapped for cash because of the holidays and all. Which leads me to ask this question...
What's a good first mod/part that I can do/get that is relatively on the 'less expensive' side? Is there even such a thing? :)

For Speed: Boost Gauge and Manual Boost Controller
For Handling: Front or Rear Antisway Bars. After having done both, I'd go with the front first.
You can remove your silencer for free. Basically that will make your car sound a little more rumble-y. Some say you get a faster turbo spool, but if that is true, then it's only 1-200RPM earlier. I did it, and I didn't notice any performance diff.

Note: I am the most n00b of the guys on here, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

That was me. You just need to work on your launch. Your not on boost when you leave the light. It will take awhile to get the hang of it. I think I was the last one to get it down out of the group.

That is probably true since I haven't gotten it down yet.
My vote would be for speed first. I'd suggest turboback exhaust and an uppipe. Then the boost controller/gauge.
If you've got a nice garage and tools, we'll come over and help you install it; make an install day out of it. If not, we could plan an install day at someone else's house.

for free, ... you can take out the intake silencer, ... and do the little 3/16 restrictor mod. You will feel some difference, not too much. Maybe makes the car a little more responsive.
for cheap, get a manual boost controller($50-130, depending on which one) and autometer boost gauge($45, Plus you need some sort of pod, like v rod currently has) and set the boost at 15psi. I think you will really like the difference it will make, especially in first and second gear.
do you have a 5spd or auto?

WRXGRL,
Nolimit is the guru on this board so you should feel comfortable taking his word as gospel. He really got most of us in the right direction. Go with restrictor mod first $1. If you can splurge more get the Manual boost controller and a gauge. You will be very very happy. And we'll put it in for free the right way. If you don't have a garage you can do it at my house.

Thanks for the offer of your garage. Seeing as I live in a condo, the garage is non-existent.
I'll let you all know when I'm planning on starting any work on my car...hopefully in the very near future.
Thanks everyone.

Just let us know what your plans are. Most of us have made all the mistakes already. Don't rush in to anything.
