nah...i already have an aftermarket system in my prelude...dont need another one..i dont even want to put that one in my STi...i just want OEM....
i really dont know much about systems so would it be cheaper to put an aftermarket in the STi??? just speakers, a head unit and an amp...thats all...no subwoofer

If you really want the stock head then by all means get it all the wires are there. But personally I would not buy the speakers from Subaru. I think they are overpriced and sound quality is mediocre at best.
Probably. I'm looking at getting an STi and going aftermarket for the stereo since Subaru will charge you about a grand for the head unit ($773) and speakers ($195) That's a lot of money that you can spend on a new aftermarket stereo and get a much better sounding system. I'm looking at an Alpine head unit which from Crutchfield's is about $300 and some speakers in the $100 a pair range. I figure I'll spend $500-$700 depending on what I get and if I want to splurge a little bit (add in tweeters, etc. Hell I could probably get some nice components put in with the Alpine and it would still be under a grand), and the system will sound a lot better than the OEM one.
Go to your Suby dealer and sit in a WRX and listen to the system in it, it's the same as what they will install in your STi. When I test drove a WRX I found the stereo a little lacking.
I'm also probably going to buy my stuff from a car audio store, Tweeters, etc and have them install it since I've read about some issues with needing custome mounts, etc for the speakers in Imprezas since the doors are so narrow. I'd rather pay a store it install them since they are insured, and if they screw anything up on the car they pay for it.

Hahahaha ya I feel you on that one I'm the same way.
Go into a car audio store, Tweeters, Best Buy, etc and play around with some of the head units, speakers, etc.
I'm leaning towards the Alpine head unit since one of my best friends has one in his car and I've played around with and and heard it and it sounds nice. (He has an Accord identical to mine, stock speakers, etc and his sounds a bit nicer with just the head unit replaced) I've also seen the same model Alpine in a number of STis I've seen on the road. I think it's the Alpine CDA-9813 ( http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=N)
that he has. The only thing I don't like about it is that since it has it's own built in amp it needs to have something connecting it directly into the battery. Since I'm not so sure how I feel about that I think I'm going to go with the model a little below that since I'm not planning on adding anything to my car beyond the headunit and 4 speakers.
As for the speakers, I'm going to go to a store and listen to them to see what ones I like the best and go with them. Probably not the most scientific or best way to do it, but hey if I like it, who's to argue?

Last thing I want to hear is noise from Audio in my car, Music is the notes generated by tapping of the opening and closing of the valves. the whoosh of the intake and the swirling of the turbo. Leave my interior alone thank you, take the excess weight from all those magnets on the speakers and place them in my home where the rush of wind is better generated from Home Theater then from passing Gas. Alas I yearn for continuous combustive presence eminating from my exhaust tips and the burr sound that leaves me speechless.
Thank you Subaru for leaving the choice of putting radio and speakers in the vehicles up to the owners. I persay like non existent audio in cars, that way I can hear the tiniest of nuances that tell me somethings wrong.

cheapest solution would probably to buy a 6 disk changer of here or www.nasioc.com/forums
they are going for 150 shipped now pretty much...then buy speakers and ur set.
