Will two JL Audio W7 12" subs, with a 1000watt amp powering each sub in a ported box provide a substantial amount of bass? I want my car KNOCKIN'!

two questions

I will dynomat the car and for sure get a 1 Farad cap and an Optima battery. I hope it'll sound really good.

why ported. The bass will sound mushy and most of all you will hear its origin. The trick is not to herar its origin you want it to blend. Go with a non ported non bandpass box. Anyting with no holes in it will sound better. Also whichever way you go make sure that the subs do not share the same airspace. They will fight eachother and will once again make it sound bad. Whichever way you go talk to a pro first they will know.
PS. have a box made, the ones by Q-logic (for instance) seem to not have a long life especially with so much power you will be putting to the woofers.

I would watch out running an amp at 1ohm. We just did a system w/ an Audiobahn at 1ohm and the electrical system in the customers blazer is having serious trouble keeping up w/ the amp.

make sure you are running atleast 4 gauge power and ground. Upgrade the ground cable from the battery to the frame to the same size as your power & amp ground.

The system pounds, but at major bass parts of a song, the amp may drop lower then 1ohm, and you can watch his battery gauge move down.

2 12" w7s? thats ridiculous... you need no more than one. i used to have one w7 10" in my legend coupe... it shook the **** out of the car. 2 12"s will be too much bass buddy. and be prepared to power it with a lot better than one 1000 w jl amp... with that, youll blow the amp before the speakers.

and another thing... if youre actually serious about this (not just talking about things that sound cool), realize the weight/space issue... the two jl w7 subs, the ENORMOUS box they require, and all the power equipment will add ~200 pounds to your trunk. to put it in perspective: the jl 10" w7 sub ALONE, no box, weighs over 50 pounds. the box for it filled my trunk, and couldve held at least 2 10"s of another type of speaker. the w7 is a serious sub

The W7 is no Joke, u will need way more then 1000 watts to push it...I think the 10" W7 by it self has a rating of 1000 watts RMS, so i dont think 1000 will do it for 2 12" subs...I have 3 12" Audiobahns in my Trunk and it ****in KNOCKS! the good thing about that is that 3 of the audiobahns probably weigh less then the 2 W7's, require less power to power them, and they use a smaller box.

I have a fiberglass box with a boston 12.5 pro and a 800 watt chrome Rockford amp pushing it. I'm not done braking the sub in yet, but sound great so far. To run 12 w7's is going to cost at least 2g's for the install to have them sound good at all, and kiss your truck good bye. After you get them put in you will have to buy so beefed up shock cuz the stockers are going to sag like a gang bangers pants. Just my 2 cents on that

HAHA, this isn't going in my WRX guys. I have a Honda Accord coupe that I will be putting this in. I'm taking out the back seats too. I'll probably just get a single W7 12" sub then. I think 2 W7's is indeed overkill. The magnet on that woofer is HUGE. What do you guys think about the W7 compared to the Eclipse Titanium subwoofers?

why ported. The bass will sound mushy and most of all you will hear its origin. Go with a non ported non bandpass box. Anyting with no holes in it will sound better.

i thought the same thing for a long time. have you heard a custom built enclosure with square ports? it made me change my mind!

ported enclosures, if built properly, do not sound like crap. i think that 1000 watts would be prefectly fine for 2 12W7's, you wont get the absolute most out of them, but it will sound good. and i doubt that anyone who wants a pair of W7's and 1000watts cares about the best sound quality possible, let alone imaging...

pimp ive heard two eclipse titanium 12"s in an audi quattro coupe... they were pretty (great looking dish with thick surround), and hit fairly hard - tight too. but they dont compare to the w7... go with a single w7 12" properly powered and you will not be dissappointed. just dont blow your amp >:P
