So magazines say that the new STI is capable of running a 13.1 in the 1/4th. But my question is what is the average driver able to pull? And how high should i rev my car for the launch? Sorry for the dumb newbie questions i am very new.

The "Average" driver can pull low 13s, because that drivetrain is stout enough to withstand pretty aggressive launches. AFAIK, nobody has broken the USDM 6 speed yet, and plenty of people are taking them to the track.

So...if i want to peg a low 13s how should i laucnch the car? I am coming from a domestic RWD so i dont know how to launch a AWD. Is it better to drop or feather, and how high should i rev 5.5?

I think you need to slip the clutch on the STI, and feather.
As for the RPM you want to rev to roughly peak torque.
However, this is what I've learned from my Subaru, it might be different for the STI.

I like to let out the clutch real fast (basically a drop). I feather the gas up and down around 3500-5000 rpms. Then when I see the last yellow light and the begining of the green light, I floor the gas and drop the clutch at the same exact time. As my foot is slamming the gas petal to the floor, I'm very quickly lifting my foot off the clutch. I do it extremely fast. If you drag out the clutch too much - slowly let up on the clutch, it will slow you down and smoke the clutch.
Another thing is how sticky the track is and how cold it is out side. I completely roasted my tires at the track the other day. I actually got sideways leaving the line. So I had to back off a little bit.
But I would rather get a little extra wheel spin than bogg. If you bogg your not leaving the line with enough rpm. I think the most important thing is to have a good constant rpm (4-5k) and then floor the gas and drop the clutch at the same time as your leaving the line. You have to commit 100% to the launch.

Um... isnt droping the clutch on a AWD vehical asking for problems? Cant you mess up your drive train hardcore? And 2 questions, using this method what 1/4 time do you run and what mods do you have? Thanx

hey I got an idea, you drad you kill your car. I'm not saying this to get ripped on, but in my opinion it's NOT a drad car. Like everyone has been saying, it does drag well, but this is a product of the design, not the goal. You should try to drift, or take some canyon runs, the formentioned, beats clutches to hell. But alass, I do stop light race from time to time...

Well, I am an average driver :D
I ran a 13.21 @ 103.7 in my STi  with just a cat-back, also full interior, jack and spare included, 1/2 tank 93

I'm just letting you know how to pull fast 60' times. Most the guys pulling the 1.69s sec 60' times are doing a real fast drop of the clutch. Its not as hard on the car as you think. The reason is we get good wheel spin coming off the line.
I made over 150 runs down the drag strip in my 02 WRX just this way. I sold my car with over 20k miles and it was still in perfect condition. The secret is to get good wheel spin coming off the line, and not to bogg.

In a WRX, it's a really bad idea, but so far it appears the STi drivetrain can handle some real abuse. It's extremely stout.

Yes the sti drive line is stronger than the wrx. I owned both. At high alt. stock sti time was 13.8. With catback and cai on 94 F it was 13.4 @ 101.9 . Curently have Cai, Blitz catback, HKS hedder, bov, ground sys, strut bars, soon to be installed god speed d/p. And if somebody replies to my Apexi thread, SAFC 2 fuel comp. Not yet 1/4 due to old man winter lol.

That's impossible w/ a 60' like that and he would also have the highest mph i've ever seen.

You're not saying you got wheelspin in your rex, are you?!

Yeah, you can get your frount wheels to spin in the STI, do an agressive launch with the DCCD on auto, and if it is a good quality launch you can ge the frount wheels to spin a little.
