While I've owned a bunch of Fords, I'd have to say a ZL-1 Camaro would will the spot just a tick before I plopped down the cash for a Boss 429 Mustang.

What about you guys?

'68 Camero SS, hands down. i'd want one in blue, with white racing stripes and some wide Weld's front and rear.

Sweet choice.

no other year had the same front grill that the '68 had, which is part of what really does it for me. it's just menacing, like the big guy at the bar who smiles at you before beating the crap out of you.

RS is nice too...

Oh, SNAP! How can you go wrong with a Red/Black '69 SS/RS - and it's in Hawaii to boot! Whoa.

I call this the "BADDEST CAMARO OF ALL TIME". Gottlieb's 1969 "Big Red". It goes on 220+ mph kamikaze blasts in races like the Silver State Classic and La Carrera. And get this - it did that back in 1990! AMAZING.

1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda,
or
1968 Dodge Hemi Dart. There was a specific model of Darts that year that came tubbed with a rollcage from the factory and no warrenty.

i may have gotten the RS and SS mixed up in my head, but they're both awesome looking muscle cars.

the 429's were pretty hard looking too:

GT40 ain't exactly a musclecar - but I love it all the same! Good pick, Pat!

dropkick_muppet
10-29-2003, 12:43 PM
no, the GT40 isn't muscle car in my book. Ferrari killer? yes. the sexiest race car ever built by a US factory? quite possible. i can hardly wait to see the new one in person.

I'm a Mustang man now, but when it comes to the old muscle cars I definitely think the Camaros of the late 60s take the cake. Every one of those pictures that was posted back on page 1 of this thread is just nasty! (And I mean nasty in a good way!)

Believe it or not, I'm a fan of the Pinto. I am not putting it on the 'musclecar' pedestal, but I am going to keep an eye out for one when I get back to the states. Nice engine.

A friend of mine own(ed?) an actual '67 Shelby GT500. 427 with hi-riser heads... Gorgeous in Guardsman Blue with white stripes. Got to ride in the car on many occasions. JUST PLAIN AWESOME.

Looked a lot like this one - but with a rollbar and Weld Wheels (he had the stockers in storage for car shows).

I like the ZL-1 Camaro, too. Also nice for the money (back then) were the special dealer-installed 427 Camaros from Berger Chevrolet, Yenko, and Nickey Chevrolet.

I used to own a 1969 Chevelle SS 396. A friend still owns a 1969 Camaro SS 396 that came with, believe it or not, a factory Saginaw 3-speed manual transmission! Unfortunately, we tossed that lump and put in a 4-speed Muncie M-21 - shoulda held onto that Saginaw box...

Another friend is currently restoring a numbers-matching 1969 Camaro SS 396 convertible with factory air-conditioning. Never been hit, a former AZ car.

Another nice car to own would be the 1965 Chevelle SS 396 (http://diecastfast.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=RVZ16), of which only 201 were sold. Here's a pic of the die-cast model:
