Was this the LED swap?

If so, send me a PM, I like your setup.

Actually, i used bulb condoms so it was really cheap. The condoms were like 1.70 for a pack of 10. but i just found a direct replacement leds for it so i think im going to order those. I'll post more pics when i do this.

Do you have a link for the direct replacement LEDS? If you are going that route can you post a picture of what it looks like once you do it? I also did the bulb condoms... looks really nice! Only bad thing is I did my gauge cluster and it's not that bright :-( Did you also change the boost gauge color.. looks more yellow, like the needles of your guages? If so how did you get it apart... I am trying to remove the damn gauge but can't because of the housing, and I do not want to break the guage off the steering colum... doesn't seem to be held on really well especially with that little bracket and two screws...

Thanks,
-Nigel

Check out autolumination.com The 74's should fit...or so trhey say. So i will try it. I will be ur guy's guinee pig. And about the boost gauge thing. I took it off the steering wheel column but oculdn't get the housing off. I don't understand. I'll try to work harder at it this weekend. The needles, i think i'm going to just buy replacement needles...to like red. www.importintelligence.com sells kits for needle replacements. It's kind of pricey however.

Awesome, let me know how the leds work... I noticed that it says "focused" is there one that is inverted so it would spread the light instead of focusing it like a laser?

I have also seen those needles... my only problem is when you pop off your needles, how would you recalibrate the new ones, and what you you attach them to in order for them to light up... do you have to solder..etc?

Thanks,
-Nigel

Not really too sure how the needles work. Hopefully they will be ok.

Did you get an orange color when you did your HVAC?

I used bulb condoms from PartsExpress and the stereo lights came out nice and red, while the HVAC looks more Orange.

Yea i dunno why. It did that for me too....The HVAC turned out orange....i tried using red leds but it doesn't shine everywhere so i put the condom back on.

I figure it's got to do with the thickness or coloring of the bigger condoms, but I'm not too sure what to do about it. Possibly paint the lights. I don't really want to replace the LEDs, but I would like the HVAC to match the stereo.

scoobynewbie

.12 for the Stereo, .2 for the HVAC

http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=3

That's where I got them from.

A word of warning... I did my guage cluster last night. So now I have Red condoms on my Stereo, HVAC and Guages. The only piece that really looks good is the stereo.

Hey guys I've got a 03 wrx and was wondering how to do this. I'd love to change to color of my stereo illumination and gauges if possible. Are there any walkthroughs u guys could point me towards?

go to www.scoobymods.com and search captainmorgan. He has it on zip file i think of the step by step directions. He did the led mod, but i just did the bulb condoms. the condoms just go over the bulb so it's real easy once you get the bulb out.

Not sure what size the LED's are, but they do make reflectors for them. http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/Leds.htm sells 5mm LED reflectors. That might help reflect the light better and get rid of some hot spots

Last question.....when you changed the gauge, did you change the gauge panel bulb to get the blue/red look or did you just leave the bulbs alone. if you did change the bulb, which one did you use?

WRichieX_sti

At first...i had a reverse glow gauge olverlay thing...but i took that off and switched the bulbs out with red leds. You can get them at autolumination.com For the red to show through i had to scratch off all the green stuff behind the original gauges.
