Howdy!

Well, it's becoming time for me to replace the RE92's on my ('02) WRX sedan- and had a couple of questions.

#1: I'm not going to change the stock rims- but I'd like to go with a wider tire than the 205's if I can. Which sizes fit without trouble?

#2: I have a Jekell and Hyde driving problem- I like to drive the crap out of the car (yeah, the '92s aren't much of a tire), but I also live at about 4500 feet, and we get snow every now and again, so I need something that will be decent on the occasional snow day. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You can fit a 225/50 on the stock rims without a problem.

Heya!

Appreciate the response. Any sugegstions for brand and type? 95% of my driving is dry roads and 5% wet/snow. I'd like something that is better than stock for dry but won't throw me off of the ledges of the snowy mountain roads...

How much do you plan to spend because a really good all season tire would be the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. The Michelins are really expensive and WILL put a hole in your pocket book.

Sumitomo HTR+ is something to consider also. I have a few friends who say they like them.

I hate that question. [grin]

I think that the Michelins are probably more than I want to spend, although I certainly haven't ruled them out. I'll take a look at your Sumitomo suggestion, haven't seen those.

Everyone else, feel free to throw your opinions in the ring!

Does anyone have a picture of a Wrx with the 225x50x16 tires on the stock rims? I would like to see how this set up looks

Michelins are expensive but I've found that they wear slower than other tires.

I like Falken ZE512s for an all season, Pirelli Nero's are also supposed to be pretty good.

Someone posted them before. Try running a search. I have them, and I can say that it looks beefy. Nobody will really notice unless they look for it or you point it out, but it is pretty "strong" looking.

As for the original question, I've heard good things about the Pirelli P-Zero Nero's when it comes to a tire for dry and for snow. I have Bridgestone Potenza RE750s which provide very good dry traction, and EXCELLENT wet traction. However, I've never taken them on the snow so I don't know how they are in snowy conditions...

I tried running a search, but only a few threads popped-up and nothing with any picture content.

So, with the 225x50x16, the tires stick out a little past the rims, right? This is the look I am going for - Kinda street/drag look!

I don't have any pictures, but I ran 225/50/16 Pirelli PZero Nero M&S on the stock wheels. They looked great. You wouldn't notice the bigger size unless you were looking for it, but it made it a bit more "strong" looking, like Choku said. I had the exact same needs in a tire that you do (I live in CO), and these fit the bill nicely. They are inexpensive, and have tons more grip in the dry AND the snow than the RE92's ever did. I HIGHLY recommend this tire for your all-weather driving needs.

What he said. Also, I'm getting Toyo Proxes 4 tires when my Rotas come in. Very good all-season tire is what I've heard. AA Traction and nice treadwear too at 300 UTCG(sp?)
