View Full Version : rota slipstreams
dunimous 10-17-2003, 10:25 AM I think I will be getting a set of rota slipstreams(black) for my 04 black wrx. But I have a few questions...
1st How do you think it will look?
2nd What is the best tire for them?(mainly street driving and I live in Fl so no snow)
3rd where is the best place to buy these I was thinking subydude.com
yes but from subydude.com
they will look good, i have steel grey slipstreams on my 02 wrx
best tire depends on what you want to pay and what you will be using them for
the best would be s03s, but there are plenty of good tires out there for just street driving
oh and here is a picture of mine on my car (my car is the one on the right)

dunimous 10-17-2003, 07:08 PM now how about what size tire would be best?

tylerderdin4 10-27-2003, 12:15 AM well i have a set of black ROTA SLIPTREAMS, and they wiegh 13.5lbs a piece/48+ offset/5x100/16x7. plus i have tires on them too 225/50r/16. mounted and balanced ready to slap on and go.
tylerderdin4 10-27-2003, 12:25 AM email me at tylerderdin4@yahoo.com to see pics of black rota slipstreams. falkins but i live in FL too. plus i only had them for 1 month. plus i did 13.74 in 1/4 at 98mph with them. very hard to get and im selling mine due to no job and need money bad. so will negotiate for rims+tires.
illche 10-27-2003, 03:14 PM slipstreems are replicas of spoon sw388s, which means they are pretty much meant for hondas and acuras. if you think they look good thats cool but I wouldnt rock a wheel that is meant for a honda on a suby its just extremely poor sense of style. and I can guarantee that you will definitly be the subject of a lot of entertaining laughter. when I heard the idea I cracked up myself. to do it would be bad for subaru enthusiests everywhere.
tylerderdin4 10-27-2003, 07:13 PM well like i said some people want different look and rims. i have a set of rs rims 2.5 on my wrx now
tylerderdin4 10-27-2003, 07:13 PM enthusiasts- thats how u spell buddy
tylerderdin4 10-27-2003, 07:16 PM slipstreams- thats what they are and 13.5lbs per wheel is great since stock is 18lbs per wheel. plus everyone has rota battle, or tarmacs on everyhting, just like a shirt that everyone has and wears- now thats stupid

The Spoon SW388 is NOT made by Spoon. They simply had a company named Desmond (http://www.desmond.co.jp) make a version of a Regamaster wheel,
http://www.regamaster.com/RegaMaster_EVO_CIVIC01.jpg
that just so happens to look similar the the SW388, but is available in different colors & bores.
Regamaster EVO (http://www.regamaster.com/Regamaster_EVO01.htm)
So, what I am really trying to say is that you
could say that the "slipstreems" are replicas of a replica (Spoon SW388) of a replica (Regamaster EVO), you would be more correct by saying that they are EVO knockoffs.

bastoswrx 10-27-2003, 08:07 PM Illche, I guess these rims don't belong on Supras or Rx-7s either. Slipstreams are replicas of Desmond Regamasters. Some pics of Regamasters on cars other than honda/acura...

bastoswrx 10-27-2003, 09:44 PM :D hehe Eso by 4 minutes. But I liked my links better since they show a poor sense of style on non-hondas :p

you are funny, you make me laugh. and to be you would be bad for subaru enthusiasts everywhere
oh yeah and i bet you know whats good and bad for subaru enthusiasts:rolleyes:
illche 10-29-2003, 09:11 AM drive around southern california for about two hours and tell me how many civics and integras are wearing those wheels. still stand by my previous statement because the bottom line is that wheel was made to fill the demand of honda owners that wanted sw388s and didnt want to spend the money. take a trip to jdmcivic.com or honda-tech.com and ask what they think about slipstreems on a suby. oh and correcting a stupid spelling mistake is such a pathetic way to make a point.
illche 10-29-2003, 09:22 AM just trying to encourage good style. if you wanna drive around looking like a clown I guess I cant do anything about that. and wrxish thats not very nice to make those personal attacks to compensate for something else or lack thereof. I am sorry but las vegas is not the national center of import culture, trust me I know what I am talking about.

those "personal attacks" was just restating what you had said
i will have to agree with you that las vegas is very far from being the "national center of import culture"
but i wouldn't really consider myself being from las vegas as i just moved here a month ago. i just moved from the bay area and i could care less about the import culture and what hondas think of me, oh no some honda guy is going to make fun of me cause i have the same wheels as him. I don't care about style, the reason i have slipstreams is for auto-xing, at 13.xx lbs each, you can't really get lighter and that inexpensive.
performance > style
bay area > southern california :p

i mean... you talk like you have some kind of 'i'm so cool' car
what are you the fashion car patrol?
i think having an attitude like yours is BAD FOR SUBARU ENTHUSIEST EVERYWHERE!!!
the problem here is your attitude man.

what are you talking about?
dude! you're from san diego...
as i said before.
go post a picture of your car... and SHOW us how cool you really are...
since you know how a WRX should be fixed up!
babysmurf 10-29-2003, 10:53 PM i don't really wanna be involved in this..
but i just had to say that wut looks cool is totally a personal preference.... wut one may think is TIGHT, another will find quite disturbing and fugly... so when u ask for opinions on subjects be prepared to hear the full spectrum...
as for my opinion on the slipstreams? hm... don't really have one? i like my wheels :D (ssr's)
tylerderdin4 10-30-2003, 06:16 AM well at least i got a rise on this thread. by the way i use to have ROTA SLIPSTREAMS on my car, now i have 2000 rs stock wheels and every subaru tech swears by it. It is matter of choice of preference and it doesn't look bad. plus the stock one are f--king ugly. and 13.5lb per wheel is great and the money. SSR cost 400-500 a piece and everybody doesn't have money. like every rich kid out there needs to learn how to drive.I did 13.74 1/4mile@98mph on stock intercooler, stock tranny, stock ecu, stock turbo, and rota slipstreams.
EsoterikWRX 10-30-2003, 09:33 AM I think Rota's most compelling reason for their popularity is definatly NOT style (excluding the Royal editions, b/c machined lips are not available on CP-035s, 57fs, etc) or bragging rights. They are, after all mostly a collection of knockoff. That being said, they have done a great job of offering Suby-specific wheels at reasonable prices with less than reasonable weights.
If you read Grassroot Motorsports, in the last 2 issues they have articles on at least 3 cars equipped with Rota wheels - 2 top performing WRXs & 1 Miata.
Lionfish42 10-31-2003, 10:11 AM I very intrested in the Rota Slipstream. I have a couple of questions.
I have only found them in 16x7, do they make a 17x7?
What tire size do you recommend? I have been looking at the S-03, Kohmo MX, and F1 S3D3. I notice that they all come in the 215/50/16. Is that a good size?
Just for those interested, I like the weight, simple design (easy to clean), and lastly they look fine.
FYI:
I am a married white male in his mid to late 30s, you will probably not see me dropping my ride and crusing with the import scene  - my wife would probably just laugh at me :p. I am interested in performance and handling characteristics.
EsoterikWRX 10-31-2003, 10:51 AM The Slipstreams are not available in 17in, so you will have to stick to 16s. If you plan to use these wheels everyday then go with 225/50/16. If you are going to use these wheels exclusively for autocrossing then 215/50 or 215/45 would work.
tylerderdin4 10-31-2003, 01:08 PM also i have a set of sliptreams for ssle if u want them. email me at tylerderdin4@yahoo.com so lionfish42 email me. plus got brand new tires on them. email me ofr pics too
