So my CEL comes on the other day. I call subaru to see if I can bring it in for a diagnostic. Sure for $72.00 freakn' dollars. So I say why you are bending me over can you check out my feul gauge because it is showing empty at 9 gallons. Sure we can, for another $72.00.. Wha Wha What!!!!!!!! Is this a normal diagnostic charge? Bueller................ Bueller.

yes it is.and thats low compaired to many areas.you must pay for the tech's time.

Take it to an Autozone. They'll read and clear the code for free. Then, when you know what the problem is, you can decide whether it warrants a trip to the dealer. $60-$80/hr is the Subaru rate around here, though I find it tough to believe they'd charge you an entire our to spend 5 minutes pulling a code.

pulling a code only tells you the failed circuit. codes dont tell you the exact fault.

The common ones are pretty obvious, and they save you paying $72 to have a Subaru tech tell you your gas cap wasn't on tight enough.

we dont charge for loose gas caps.a charge for that is not good business sense
