View Full Version : JIC Full Ti Catback
J-REX 09-15-2003, 02:04 PM Just wanted to let everyone know that I dropped the JIC Magic Bullet 505s full titanium catback on my STI and wow! It fits up perfect to my Turboxs downpipe and midpipe. If you are thinking about doing this yourself then you will need a couple bolts to connect it since it doesn't come with a hardware kit and the stock bolts suck. Instead of using a donut gasket you should probably find yourself a 3" flat aluminum gasket. The easiest way to find one may be on the internet since I had a really hard time finding one.
If you keep the silencer in the muffler it sounds nearly stock. My ears couldn't really tell the difference. But when I pulled the silencer out the the sound came alive. It brought out that really boxer noise. Not too loud like I had heard it was going to be on the 2.5. I'm stoked so I just thought I'd tell everyone. I get a little backfire when I shift at low RPM's but with no cats and no back pressure it's to be expected. Besides, once you learn how to control it and do it when you want, it's fun to make people duck and run for cover.
bao ling 09-15-2003, 02:59 PM A backfire or fire out the back?
J-REX 09-15-2003, 03:53 PM Umm...A little bit of both.
essogas 09-15-2003, 06:47 PM You said, "WOW" can you elaborate a bit on that? What is different? More HP by the numbers are HP that you can feel in your body, not your mind. What about spool up?
Uncle Si 09-15-2003, 07:07 PM yep...ditto
J-REX 09-15-2003, 07:32 PM I just try and give out some info and everyone just asks for more. Are you guys never happy. Spool up is fast. noticably faster than stock and no boost spike. As far as hp gains, I can't give you anything concrete because it hasn't been on a dyno yet. The car is fast, that's all I know. It put me back in my seat before the exhaust and it still puts me back in my seat. At 300hp no one can notice small gains like 5-10hp, it's of course all in the mind. Like putting new carbon fiber side mirrors on. Of course the cars gonna feel faster. I don't think that the car gained much more than 15-30hp with the whole package. 30hp being very unlikely but I could be wrong. And I define "wow" as very f*cking nice. Not to mention the catback only weights 8 lbs.
essogas 09-15-2003, 07:42 PM That's better. Thanks man. I don't know if I want to spend the coin on an exhaust because I'm not sure how worth it it will be. I think I might put the money toward a second set of rims and a DVD Nav (both of which I don't have) I have a perfectly working exhaust now.
STiLL WILL 09-16-2003, 12:29 AM J-REX,
Have you had any CEL issues since it doesnt have a cat anymore?

J-REX 09-16-2003, 08:48 AM STILL-
Ya I still have a CEL. Had it checked out by my friendly neighborhood Subaru dealer. I'm in good with those guys. It just thows the P-Code for catalytic converter inefficiency. Bad thing about getting a CEL on the STI is that it deactivates the cruise control. I wrote a whole thread on it. Read the post just below the pic of the DP.

Is 5-10 HP worth losing your cruise control and having a CEL come on? I guess it is to some.
J-REX 09-16-2003, 10:59 AM Essogas you should've read the other post and found out that there's gonna be a CEL fix. You should do more research before you post sarcastic replies. Maybe I'll see you at a stoplight someday. Tell me what color my taillights are!

:D It was sarcastic but I meant no offence to you. Everyone has their own priorities. I'm patient enough to wait for all the bugs to be ironed out BEFORE I make any changes. (which I intend on doing) And I certainly will be able to tell you what colour your tail lights are because I'll just be cruising using my WORKING cruise control. But seriously, I'm actually waiting to see what PRODRIVE comes out with, then I might buy their kit and get an ECU tuning done here when the software is ready.
J-REX 09-16-2003, 01:58 PM Check out Prodrives stand alone ECU. It runs around 2500 British Pounds (about $4300). If I had that kind of cash, I'd definetely get one. No need for a dyno, you just map it on the go like ECU's should while they're getting the proper air flow and running temps they don't get while on a dyno.
JikJak 09-17-2003, 03:42 AM so where did u get the exhaust? and how much? im deciding between the jic titanium or the fujitsubo titanium exhaust.
so does the exhaust tip come out at an angle? or straight back?
J-REX 09-17-2003, 09:06 AM Jik Jak-
I've never heard of the Fujitsubo. I'm gonna have to go check that out. If you're looking at the back of the car the tip comes out and points to the left at an angle. Looks really good. You have to take off the stock heat shield that's above the stock muffler though. I paid $1150.00 and after washington taxes it came out at $1251 I think.
JikJak 09-17-2003, 11:39 AM did u buy it in seattle? or ordered itfrom the net?
i only live a couple hours away in vancouver,bc. do u happen to have any sound clips?
i may be heading down there sometime soon to check out worldone and listen to their turboxs system and perhaps go for a ride in their car as well. if u are in the area id love to hear your exhaust as well .
J-REX 09-17-2003, 12:13 PM Um, I'm in the military and I'll be taking a uh business trip next week. I'll be gone for about a month but after I get back I'll be happy to hook up with you unless you want to come down this weekend. I bought the exhaust in Tacoma at Speedline. Kyle there does good business and owns an STI himself. He does really good deals if you're cool and will try his best to price match if you can prove it. I checked out that Fujitsubo and I don't think I like it that much. But something else I did find was the Kakimoto 1.0Z Titanium. check that one out. It's a little more expensive though. Maybe we could meet up at World one. e-mail me your phone number and I'll call you.

JikJak 09-17-2003, 07:16 PM i looked at the kakimoto as well but i heard that they are very loud. i like my exhausts deep but i dont want it to be too loud or annoying. do u know much about their products?
wat did u not like about the fujitsubo exhaust? i heard that they make high quality products. well im still trying to find out more info on these systems.
if u know of any othere let me know hehe
calworld 09-18-2003, 07:23 PM If you guys don't mind, please try to record the sound of 3 of them cause I am looking at 3 of the best JDM exhaust also
