Do most junkyards offer exchange for good parts? (fwd-awd related)
I'm wanting to save a few dollars and buy a FWD impreza for now and convert it to AWD later. Do most junkyards offer a lower price on the parts i'd want in exhange for "my" working parts?

Now i see why you said that, it won't save me money, but for now i just need a car to drive and a FWD impreza seems like a good choice, i should be able to pick one up for around $1,000-$1,500. I'll have the car to drive, then while driving it, i can save up for the AWD conversion.
You need to go to "Harrys" dude!!
www.wegotused.com
Take the "virtual helicopter ride" around the junk yard!!!
parts list is also on the website... Trannys are about $50..
This place is AWSOME..Everybody up here "shops" there. When you go in you have to wait in line. And when you leave there are 3 check out windows and you have to wait in line again... The cars are there for about a month and then crushed and new stock is brought in. HUGE SELECTION....
look at their specials in Hazelton(thats the mother of junkyards, the others are satelites) and in september 14-20th trannys are $30

there is more that you have to replace then just the tranny to do a fwd to awd conversion
you need pretty much a new rear end (diff, axels, driveshaft, etc)
and since its a fwd car, most likely not made to fit a driveshaft to the rear. so there is more modifications that need to be done to the car. and make sure that the awd tranny will fit, it is larger than a fwd tranny.
