View Full Version : The sti look

What's your opinion on people that put so many sti accessories on their car for the look. For example sti grille w/ sti badge, sti badge on trunk, sti foglamp cover, sti etc... In my opinion, people who add all the looks of an sti without the performance is like someone putting a type R sticker on their integra when its just a gs-r. Even worse, some guy with a civic putting an SI badge or a type R badge on a plain American civic.

I agree, without power mods any aesthetic mods are crappy IMO. But to each their own.

the badging ill agree with, but other things such as the grill or headlights have nothing to do with performance, people just like the different look.

Putting sti projetor lamps can't really be looked down upon if you do it right. Besides for looks, if you added the lights with the right mods your vision at night increases drastically therefore improving performance.

i think u are wrong. well, except for the badging. I got STi solid foglight covers. why? so my fogs dont get cracked by rocks. hell, the fogs arent even in right now cause i dont even NEED them. especially after i got HIDS. weight savings.

i also have a v5/6 replica wing. why? cause a naked wrx trunk looks just plain horrible. I feel that wing looks the best on the car. much better than that wack stock wing. does it make it look more like an STi? yes, i admit it. does the car look better? i think so. and so did that carfull of hunnies on the bay bridge that hollared at me.

I agree with you on the functionality of the foglamp covers. I want to get some mesh foglamp covers myself becuase I love snowboarding, and I go up to Tahoe on day trips quite frequently. Did you get the covers because they said sti, or is it the need for the genuine product. When I get my covers, I would prefer the replicas over the ones that had the sti logo on it. Why? I don't know, I would feel like a "ricer" if I had stuff that said sti but still had a stock WRX... but that's just in my opinion.

I don't know...we urethaned a Porche front emblem onto my brother's geo prism and it really feels faster...when we glued the Audi 'Quattro' emblem to his trunk the handling also got a lot better in the snow...(he gets tons of questions about it from people BTW...)

Actually I'm personally not a fan of STi 'badging' but do like some things from the STi like the HIDS (which I can't afford)...the STi shifter trim actually provides a nice accent to the interior of the car, breaking up the plastic, although I just got the shifter trim from ASP (autospeedperformance) that has the 'WRX' logo on it and was able to avoid having those 3 letters on my car and it looks great...and for the '02/'03's the STi front lip doesn't look bad...having said that if you put it on your car that doesn't mean you then need to stick 'STi' emblems all over the place...

supertek: i got the solid sti covers because there were no replicas out on the market at that time. If i got covers now, i'd get plain replicas and have a custom sticker with my chinese name on it.

I haven't really seen anyone with impreza's putting the sti badge's, but I allways notice the bmw drivers with there with their 3 series removing there badge and replacing it with an M3 badges. I like to point them out and ask questions regarding there car. Or to ask them which car it is 318, 325 etc. I like the look on there face when they find out that some kid knows there car isn't a true M. I don't like the badge swapping, I think you should be proud of what you have. Im getting a 2.5rs and you wont see any STI or WRX badges on that baby. Doesn't mean I wont take parts or a Sti replia body kit. But no badges.

Personally, I think all of those STi badges on WRXs are lame, with the exception of the STi foglight covers. Even if you have STi parts (intercooler, intake manifold, seats, suspension, wheels, whatever), it's still not an STi, and it's really no different than your common ricer who slaps Type-R stickers on his/her Honda Civic DX. Fit your WRX with all the STi parts you want, just not the badges. End of discussion.

STi is not a car, it is the name of the division that modifies and makes parts for the WRX. Subaru Techica Incorpoated or something like that. So if you have modified your car with an STi IC, suspension or any number of parts that they make, then feel free to slap an STi sticker on your car. I see people with K&N stickers, K&N didn't make their car, what about the perrin stickers. STi is a parts and tuning division of Subaru, not a CAR. That's why it's called the WRX STi. Notice the WRX first. Then tuned by STi. Anyway get a life if all you have to complain about is people putting stickers and badges on THEIR cars. Their starving people in the world, orphans, joblessness, war, and mass murderers on the loose. Use some of you free time figuring out how to solve these instead of worrying who has what on THEIR car. After I finish with all the engine and suspension mods on my car I plan on having STI grill(like the rounded look better), STi solid cover(protect foglights), STi hood scoop and splitter(more air to IC) and STi side skirts ( like the look better than the stock ones) so:monkey:

STi = Subaru Technica International :)

I agree, STi is a performance division of Subaru, like TRD to Toyota or AMG to Mercedes. If you're using the parts, you can display the name, just like any other tuning company.

I have a STi and I want to remove all the STi badges and stickers, and that rediculous looking wing as well.
Anything that does not improve the car's perfomance or comfort does not have to be on the car, let alone the fact that those emblems just makes my car a prime target for thieves.
The wing maybe functional, but I am sure I can get something else that does the same thing and doesn't block out every other car on the road. :D

There are a few pics of debadged / dewinged STi's on I-club and they look AWESOME....The wing isn't very functional...in C&D's test it deformed a lot, and besides any wing/spoiler doesn't really start to work (if functional in the first place) until around 75 MPH...as the STi spoiler is flat and not tilted forward it's doubtful it makes much downforce...

I put the sti side marker covers on mine. The orange is awful on black car I got em cheap. Plus that clear diamond cheese is even worse. Aside from that, I say keep sti where it belongs, under the hood.

09-05-2003, 06:34 PM
well i didn't read all the posts because i was too lazy, but i did read the first few.

there is nothing wrong with putting sti parts on your car. sti is a company that sells parts. similar to trd, mugen, nismo, amg, etc.

the only thing i disagree with is the badge on the trunk. thats when you start trying to imitate having a "sti" and that should not be done.

if you think putting sti parts on your car is rice because it says sti, then you are a fool.

I know that I am jumping into a cage full of screaming ape's that think I am a frikin banana. But here it goes. I have a 03 white WRX. It looks very similar to the STi Type RA. And I like that look. The only things done to the out side are. From front to back. I blacked out my front headlights, STi carbon side markers - i hate the orange blinkers, Zero Sports Carbon stock wing risers - to make it functional (yes i like to go over 100 mph and turn), a Jun bumper exhaust shield, and yes an STi badge on the back! My car also has a injen intake, 9.5lbs flywheel, gruppe-s up pipe, HKS down, APEXI N1 cat. My car is quite quick. I like the way that the $10 STi badge matches the STi carbon blinker covers that match my carbon wing risers. Soon I will have an STi hood scoop to go with the STi intercooler. The car looks good with that little pink badge on it and I have power under the hood to keep that pink badge a respectful name. Besides chicks love pink, and I'm always up for some tail.

i think the STi parts make the car look bad ass. after my accident, i had the body shop put on the STi head lights (EDM), grill, and hood scoop. the front of the car looks so much bettter than before. kida makes the car look a little more stretched out and not as boxy. as for the STi badges on the trunk lids, i dont know about that. carbon side blinkers are cool, but the badges are a little too much. but may be im not one to say much about that because i took all the badging off my car.

mister2cool, is your sti silver, if it is i will trade you my factory wing, hey i took my 2.5 rs off the front, and painted it red on the edges, and put it in the grill does that count, it is a 2.5 liter? hey it is your car if it feels wierd putting something on it, it probabley is, cause someone out there no matter what itis gonna bust your balls about it.

yeh, as long as it's a genuine STI part, then i think its okay to have a sti emblem on the grill, lipspoiler, etc. its like putting on
some dc sports decal on a civic with a header or something.

I have an STI hoodscoop... because I wanted more air to the tmic... until I actually get a front mount.. I think it looks nicer as well. I plan on getting STI head lights and a front grill. Because the lights will make me see better at night especially with HIDS, and the front grill looks nicer as one piece! I DO plan on keeping the STI emblem on the front, to pay tribute to the STI because I think it owns... As for that, anything else in my opinion is tacky.. I hate the STI's wing... way too big in my opinion, and I don't like the body kit that they use... Love the power plant under the hood though...hehehe

But it's the people that own the cars that they think what mods make them nice... Want to make your car look tacky, that's fine, you paid for it and it's YOURS.. not mine. I have no right to tell you what to do to your car or john doe's car... to each his own :-)

( Ijust don't want to see any damn rex's with tacky banners and stickers everywhere on their car like I see sooooooooooo many riced out cars... yuck yuck yuck!)

Are STI mesh foglight covers, morette headlights, and an STI radiator cap Ricey ?

SuboobaruWRSEX
09-11-2003, 02:34 PM
No, not ricey. Anything STi is not ricey, they dont make euro tail lights. Dont compare STi to Honda R because Honda's are designed to get good gas mileage and that is it! Then some kids get their civics for $1,500 and want to make their P.O.S. "fast". Honda definition of fast is an air filter coffee can, and body kit, then they attempt to race us and get killed because they are slow. Anything Honda is ricey, even the very nice S2000 is slow compared to us. I do not know one pice of STi equiptment besides the badge that dosnt perform some function. Besides has anyone heard of a slow WRX? I agree that STi is more like AMG it is a performance tuner for a performance car. Honda R is a fake performance tuner for a car that tries to make over 100whp. While STi adds 100whp to the car.

The Facts, Deal with it.

My friend has a fast as hell civic... He actually has the b18c Integra Type R engine... He spent $5000 :o for just the engine swap. I'll admit it's a honda, but so far I have yet to see him not smoke anything out there... Funny as hell too, he has a complete sleeper look out there... It is kinda cool that he can redline to 9k rpm... that is pretty neat.
Overall it's one of a couple civics that aren't riced out and can actually perform out there :-)

First I'll say it, I don't condone street racing ( I hope I spelled condone right). Anyway, I'm racing this white civic hatch down I-5, and just as I'm expecting to see headlights in my rear view, I see tailights from this thing followed by a huge cloud of white. This fool juiced me on the highway. So no matter how much Honda's suck, watch out. Cause there's always that one Honda owner out there that can afford direct port nos.:(

Not to act like too much of an ass, but my WRX is my slow car. I have a 1987 Buick Grand National (turbo 3.8 V6) with close to 500whp. Its alcohol injected at 21 psi of boost. I find civics to be pices of ****. If anyone put 5 grand into their motor (wrx 11-12 second car)(gn 9-10 second car)(civic 13-14 second car). Get my point. And that little ***** had nitrous, a totally different story. Try SMC alcohol injection for your cars its like a mini shot of NOS, but it wont hurt your motor, it actually cleans it, and it is alot cheaper. Member of the fuc*in hate civic club.

the reason why i have the sti foglight covers is that 1) i don't need my foglights, 2) i want genuine parts, and last but not least 3) when i got the car and parked it, someone called it a neon. a neon... i just lost it, bought the jdm headlights along with it. now i just got my cf side marker w/ the sti logo so that no non subies will mistake my car again for a f**kin neon.

I have a 2002 WRX with the following STi look: solid foglight covers, door sticker, trunk emblem, and carbon fiber side markers. Btw, I have an automatic too. The stickers and emblem made my car super duper faster on my butt dyno. Jk, but I have a VF30 with COBB Tuning stage 2.5. Heck, I could've bought me a real STi and a few mods on the amount of money I spent. It's all fun! It's MY car anyways. I THINK it looks good. Geez, now anyways... where should I put my new VTEC sticker up at?

oh no my car's not a wrc car so i guess i should go take everything off now *sniffle*

On the topic at hand:

I agree that most STi parts out there, aside from the back badge and the side decals, actually have function. Don't quote me on this but the STi grille *may* be *slightly* more aerodynamic than the stock piece. Solid fog covers also look like they can provide an aerodynamic boost, and ofcourse the mesh covers protect the fogs.

STi lips are supposed to have aerodynamic functions, although that kind of improvement i'm not sure, just remembered seeing the windtunnel pic in an impreza magazine a long time ago. As for the rest of their stuff.....well they're all functional.

Doing it for the look is all good in my book, what do i care if the guy's car is an STi or not, i'm not gonna be getting in to it thinking "oh i have STi stickers on my car, now i gotta prove something to other people" Nah, STi stuff looks good, its better to have STi decals than "ebruni corp" stickers all over after you've slapped on that oh-so-sexy combat kit.

Holy crap, why the hell does this dead horse topic get dragged back out of the graveyard once a year?! Get a life, grow some balls, and realize that STi is an in-house tuning company that happens to also tune a car in factory that is then released to the public. Think AMG, genius!
