View Full Version : PLEASE HELP-02 wrx tranny trouble
AWDturboREX 08-15-2003, 11:29 AM Ok, here's the deal. My manual transmission went at 9800 miles. The dealer is not standing behind it because they say it isn't normal wear and tear, while the commercials lead you to believe that the car can be driven hard. I already complained about my transmission before it broke because of the crunching that happens with clutch to the floor. The dealer tries to say that my wheels and tires, (Axis 18" se7ens and Nankang 225/40-18zr's) and my cat-back Tanabe racing medallion exhaust voided my warranty.
What i need help with....
I'm begging anyone who's had transmission trouble to post their trouble with an email address or an aim name that I could reach them at. I cannot afford a new transmission. I just need a few credible sources (credible meaning real people with 02-03 wrx’s) to back me up saying that this car (02 wrx) has transmission trouble. Please help me.
Kevin M 08-15-2003, 01:26 PM Did they blame it on the mods or did they claim driver abuse? Your mods clearly did not cause the problem, so you are going to have to contact SOA directly and/or file in small claims court.
tekfoc 08-15-2003, 08:26 PM just put after market gears and save your self some trouble.gimmie gears is the way to go.
AWDturboREX 08-16-2003, 06:50 PM It's unclear what they blamed it on but i do have an attorney and will file in a small claims court... thanks for the input guys
V8fiero 08-17-2003, 08:15 PM I have a simmalr problem. My front O/2 failed, They told me my K&N airfilter voided my warranty. I would have to pay for the repair. They informed me of a service bullten that stated ANY after-market part could void your warrenty.
The airfilter is in the stock air box. I was Ragging mad, after i rememberd I paid $1200.00 for a 100,000 mile Service contract.
Just prior to this posting I contacted a Law ferm keeping In mind all the other Subaru owners who service their own cars, and that the Service Buleten is not made Public information.
wrxmerchant 08-21-2003, 09:26 PM man that sucks
bigdog 08-22-2003, 06:55 PM on the 18" inch wheel issue ---they are correct---subaru states that they provide 17" wheels not 18" there for voiding your warranty--they are in the right----------
on the trans issue--if they open the trans and find that the trans was abused by the way the trans is damaged then yes they can say no and void your warranty------suggestion to maybe try---have them ask their rep if you pay for the parts --if they will cover the labor---then they might bite and you both win!!!just a suggestion
Kevin M 08-22-2003, 07:10 PM Wheels do not void the warranty. They would have to prove that the wheels caused problems, and legally that's pretty much impossible. The problem is the claim of abuse- having broken transmission parts is pretty good evidence of abuse.
SUBARU_TECH 09-12-2003, 11:42 PM ur at the wrong dealer-or the whole story is not being told-tiers will not make you void any warranty-contact your area (dsm) or go to another dealer that is looking out for you.
nypatrick 09-13-2003, 11:43 AM Please continue to post results of both the trannie problem and the o/2. Just an air filter hardly seems likely to void a warranty. I have to believe that lost of Rxrs use LN filters, cat backs, etc.; none of which violate the internals in any way.
berkasal 10-03-2003, 10:38 AM i got tranny problems too man, the only thing i hate about this car is the gears, they suk, its the worst gear box i have used in my life, it is the worst! it wouldnt go in the first gear unless i stopped sometimes, sometimes i have trouble in 4th, its just messed up, mr subaru should make a better one because it is not the one this car deserves. it would be okay for a civic or an eclipse but not subaru wrx.
downshift 10-07-2003, 02:52 PM lots of people dotn know how to really drive it, u cant go into 1st gear when u are rolling, only if u are going up a hill or ur car is basically stopped or very close to stoppin is when u can go into 1st, forcing ur way into 1st will break ur tranny. sigh... oh well at least i know how it works. =) u guys good luck on really learning, they wrx gear box rules. just dont kno sigh kids these days.
Stage2REX 10-08-2003, 11:18 PM I have a 2002 WRX and my clutch went at 6,800 miles, and it is not me because i took it very easy on the clutch( no dropping, and only slipped it a couple of times). The WRX tranny is kinda glassy as my friends WRX tranny went after 12,000 miles.
wrx-n-process 10-21-2003, 01:33 AM I got 40k on my 02 wrx and I am starting to get crunches going into first from a full stop. Pissing me off!
Other than that, the tranny is GREAT! LOL
WRXXX 10-24-2003, 02:50 AM Has anyone heard of subaru doing a recall on their tranny's? It seems to me that tons of people are having problems. How many people will it take before SOA gets it through their heads that something has to be done. I sure as hell didn't pay over $20,000 for a car that is suppoosed to be a sports car, just to have the drivetrain take a dump on me. If I wanted that I would have bought a doge neon......Just my thoughts!
Chronos 10-24-2003, 03:05 AM So are only 02's having tranny problems? or is it just too early for 03 and 04's ? Since I have a 99 accord v6 with a messed up tranny I'm really wondering if I should get a used 02 WRX cuz the last thing I want is tranny problems again and money might be an issue
