I'm considering BFG to replace the OE's. Could you share your experience with BFG KDWS or recommend any other i should consider?

[edit]
Also, what about up-sizing? ..225/50-16 with stock rims?

I have been told that the the BFG tires are all good on dry pavement but are horrible in the rain. Yes this include the KDW also. If you want a really well balanced tire, then get the Bridgestone S03PP or Pirelli Rossos. I have had experience with both tires and I like them both. Also the Pirellis are a bit quieter and smoother for cruising. If you want more performance and are willing to sacrifice a little comfort, then go with the S03PPs.

Just a reminder that these tires are NOT all season tires. Even the KDW. If you want all all season tire, then go with the the Bridgestone RE950s or go with the Sumitomo HTR+ I have good reviews about both tires.

Or if you have a really big pocket, then try the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. These are supposed to be the "best" all-season tire available.

ImprezaRSDriver,
Thanks for the info! actually, i was referring to BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS which are all season's. I do plan on driving on snow once in a while...
I'll have to do some shopping for tires you mentioned. i couldnt find RE950s or HTR+ on Tirerack.com

...those sport A/S' are expensive!!:p

I ordered a set of bfg kdws from costco. Hope to install them next week. 1$ cheaper per tire than at tirerack. :)
By the way I went for 205/55/16

Alex.

Hey,
I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on the stock rims (205/55/16).

AMAZING!!!!

But just as ImprezaRSDriver said you need a deep pocket. (Not that I am bragging-- I am poor but I have what doctors call a little bit of a spending problem). I did get a "steal" @ $175/per tire installed and well worth every cent. Excellent dry traction, Excellent wet traction, and even pretty good in the snow. A huge performance improvement over the OEM RE92s.

Acceleration is much better, handling way more responsive, and braking is much much better on the stock setup.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

By the way I went for 205/55/16Hey, thanks a bunch! KDWS's are the tires that I'm planning on getting next year. It never occurred to me to check with Costco, even though I walk right past their tire department to enter the main store. Membership has its benefits :)

Ok, Ok... maybe you're right. I guess after puttin' out the cash the butt dyno went a little haywire. I'm sure it was just nice and chilly that day. Still excellent tires.

I have 17' prodrive p 7s in anthracite with the pilot sport a/s.
Cream of the crop. It feels like you are on dry pavement in the pouring rain.Kind of spendy but a all over excellent tire I am very pleased.

:D i know what youre talking about. i just added momo shift knob and i swear my car's upper mid range torque went up 50%!

I just found out my front insides totally worn out:confused: With stock alignment i thought it'd wear out evenly. anyway, A/S vs. KDWS... it's about $250 difference, right? lemme see.. if Rotas are going for $450 a set... damn, i still dont know what i'm getting.

Here is another piece of advice I learned and tell anyone when they are buying tires. Never go cheap on tires because it is the only thing that keeps your butt in contact with the ground. I would suggest going with the A/S' I have had BFG tires in the past and I feel that they just do not cut it in the rain. But I will admit their tires do grip really well in the dry.

I've been very happy with my Nokian NRW's. Comparable dry handling to the RE92's, better resistance to hydroplaning and no comparison on snow traction...I have three season tires on my car when there is no snow in the Sierra's.

My step dad was going to buy e tires for X-mas, but I didn't want them, anyways on consumers report and they found the best all season tie was the Dunlap A2's I think has what they are called.
Did better then the Polits Just my two cents

I have had BFG KDWS on my car since Apr '02 (7500 miles). I have had no problems in the rain. It has only snowed a couple of inches so far and it only lasted a couple of days so I really haven't had a good snow test yet. I have autocrossed with them approx 5 times and they handle much better than stock.
The sidewalls are very stiff. I wouldn't be surprised if they would run with no air. The place I had them mounted had a hard time getting the bead to set on the rim. The ride is much harsher, so much so, I switched my front whiteline endlinks back to stock. Overall I'm happy with them so far, we'll see how they work when we get some real snow.........................................Doug

BFG KDWS - it may not be the best out there but definitely a huge improvement over the RE92's.
I finally got them and I totally agree with omaha2.5rs. They are much stiffer than stock and handles much better! same corners i used to take are going by much faster, with confidence:D steering feedback is better in both high speed sweepers and tight turns. I'm glad I got these.

I have been looking at the Sumitomo HTR+.

They seem to get good reviews...any comments?

Size will be 225/45-17.

Remember...the climate conditions within your area should also be a factor for your decision. If I were you, I would find someone that is selling the stock wrx rims, put some snow tires on there, and come summer time, put a nice set of "summer performance" tires and shoes on your car.

If you don't get much snow...well, then you have your pick, from the rest of the posts.

Oh, I also agree with the Dunlop A2's. Dunlop seems to make some nice tires for us people in the NE region. My brother has them on his car, and he claims that they are very stable in this inclement weather we just faced. The grooves in the tires also seem that they would "channel" lots of water from underneath. Just my speculation.

Well, good luck hunting.

As far as the size...well, I will wait to hear replies, because I am looking for something other than the RE92's in a month or so.

enjoy,
i.

if you want some advise from a tire guy if i was going to get a set of all season tires in the same size i would probably get dunlap sp 5000 for one they are a great handling tire with less flex for more grip and also you will pay rite around 110 dollars a tire installed at discount tire co. that also includes a warrenty with a pro rated warrenty from the factory but that is just my choice of tire my second option would be the pilots from mich. but they are creating some problem for instance when its really hot and humid or cold and wet the tire will produce some corrosion around the rim and the bead of the tire and will make the tire loose air but that is just my beef with mich. but are really good tires

thanks for info guys.
I find KDWS' good fit for my all season needs... in So Cal, going snowboarding several times a year. In couple of months I'll be looking for 17's with summer tires:)
