2.5 RS-T Questions

I was looking into turboing a 2.5 RS, but I've heard that they do not respond well to turboing. What would I be looking at if i did a Ludespeed stage II kit or the avo kit. Probably I would do a lighter flywheel and uprade the clutch also. Would this setup be a reliable for daily driving conditions or not? Any help would be appreciated. Thx

With a light flywheel, good clutch, turbo-back exhaust, and the Ludespeed Stage II, you'd be pretty close to breaking into the 13s, and you'd have a real strong autocross car if your suspension is up to it. A stage II RS-T has tons of torque and very little lag.

agreed. the added torque of the extra .5 really takes the sheepish smiles off wrx owners faces, and puts them on yourself

tip: please please please run good fuel management. you will be rewarded in the longrun...and it will last a good long time.

enjoy

You mentioned engin management is very inportant do you think it would be worth spending the extra cash on the ludespeed III for that reason. I am thinking about the same thing for my car but the thing is I need a car that is relyable and fast I know that when you go fast you break things but how can that be kept to a minimum.

More important than the specific ECM you use is the skill of the tuner you take it to. The link is proven to work well, along with others. As long as you don't run more boost or try to make power beyond what the maker (e.g. Tom at Ludespeed) provides, you should be nearly as reliable as stock, as long as (sing the chorus with me now) you have good tuning.

so could the ludespeed kit with the clutch and flywheel upgrade be fine for a daily driver or should I ditch the piggyback system and go with the Link Plus. I don't plan on running over the ludespeed's 6.6lbs of boost.

I don't have one yet. I was just looking into this. What are the differences?

There are two basic engine management systems in stock RS'- Mass Airflow Sensors (more accurate but finicky) and Manifold Absolute Pressure sensors (more reliable but slightly less advantageous for tuning). Considering the rarity of any used RS, go for whichever you can get first that is in good shape. In the case of Ludespeed, it uses a Link ECM, which requires a MAP sensor. 2000 and up EJ25s already have this- for 98-99s it has to be added. Either way, it will make a great daily driver.

I was looking at a 2000 or better since they have LSD, so I will probably try and go for that.

All in all and after all is done, you will want to run engine management or this will happen. Trust me. The boost bug is OH SO ADDICTIVE! But be careful or you will break. Take a look...
