View Full Version : Lets get this party started! Imprezer 07-28-2003, 02:40 AM Warranty? The only time I took my car in for the warranty is when my window switch broke. ;) KnightRider 07-28-2003, 01:04 PM I took mine in, for a CEL within the first few days, window squeeking on 2 occasions, parking brake light stayed on, and clutch shudder, all fixed for free. Slamsitin 07-28-2003, 01:41 PM Window squeeking? My drivers window does this alot but i wasnt to worried but maybe i should take advantage. I'm more worried about my fifth gear takin alil time to get into, as well as reverse. I know reverse is the first thing to start giving people problems when the clutch is goin. My car has only 8k miles so maybe i should get it all checked out. or do i need ot just give it some more break in time. Please reply with your ideas! thanx all, I-club Rules BlkRx 07-28-2003, 05:36 PM Everyones got that reverse problem so I wouldnt even worry about it. Ive heard switching gear oil dramatically helps the problem though. Kevin M 07-28-2003, 11:36 PM This one time, I tossed a 150 shot of naaawwwwwsss in there, and something went bangbangbangclunk, so I yanked it right, and went into the dealer, and they wouldn't fix it, so I told my daddy, and he got mad and yelled, and they still said no, so my daddy got his mean lawyer down there, and they STILL said no and now I think Subaru sucks and I hate them and the subaru is crap and I mean, I've never had a problem that didn't deserve, and get, warranty treatment. Which besically means I got the clutch TSB done with no trouble. Done the same day in fact. supra_man 07-29-2003, 05:50 AM Hey BAN SUVS its people like you why Subaru is so quick to void a warrenty. You didnt think that NOS will cause damage to a motor? Now when i get an alarm they said it will void warrenty. They even said if i rev to high it will void warrenty. djerickd 07-29-2003, 07:10 AM I've never brought my car in for warrantly work either, I dont trust others working on my car. So I do all the work myself :) Plus it's probably modded out of a warrantly anyway. EWThompson13 07-29-2003, 08:46 AM Relax supra_man! In case you didn't notice Ban is a moderator here, and you may have also missed the bit of sarcasm he threw in. A dealer can not void your warranty by the simple addition of an alarm. If a modification is completely unrelated to what broke, they legally have to fix the problem! supra_man 07-29-2003, 02:53 PM Sorry about that. But where im from they have voided warrentys for alarms, turbo timers, etc. Kevin M 07-29-2003, 08:01 PM You guys only have one Subaru dealer right? I imagine any competition would keep them in line. Fact is, under the Magnussen-Moss Warranty Act, it is the manufacturer's burden of proof that your modifications caused or otherwise led to a mechanical or electrical/electronic failure. If you install and alarm or TT, and your harness gets fried, tough. But if you do that and cylinder 3 starts misfiring, they have to fix it. Also, NOTHING voids your entire warranty. It's not one big catch-all clause, it covers each component seperately. Some are of course inter-related, for instance adding Vishnu Stage III will indeed void your tranny and diff warranties, but not the one on your power mirrors. So as you can see i get two different storys from 2 diff dealerships and from people with subys. With a WRX, there are very few mods that won't make a dealer wary about fixing your drivetrain under warranty. You can do a catback exhaust, drop-in filter, plugs and wires, but that's about it. Anything that removes a cat or raises boost or messes with the ECU (which the best first mods- uppipe, reflash, exhaust, downpipe all do). Intakes, while not adding much if any power, are also grounds for denying warranty claims on the engine. Also, certain supension mods will void covereage of other suspension parts, and the previously mentioned alarms and turbo-timers can affect your warranty on electrical parts. supra_man 07-30-2003, 10:45 PM Thanks for the 411. samowrx 07-31-2003, 04:47 PM i've taken my car in for the window once, about to take it in again for another window and maybe the squeaky front seat. I've had the speedometer, front sway bar bushings, and they updated my record with an A-pillar repair but it was never broken as far as i know. reverse has difficultly because there are no synchros on our reverse gear. a better gear oil makes it easier but doesn't fix the situation (was going to say problem, but it's a design issue). nypatrick 08-01-2003, 08:03 AM I would like to hear more about the clutch shudder. My 02 seems to have abit of it when cold, but later, it's gone. Is it a "problem" or a "characteristic" of the WRX? Mine now has 13K miles. Trvlr5 08-01-2003, 10:46 AM From what I've read in the other boards here, and on Vivid Racing's forum, the '02s are notorius for clutch shudder. The 02 model RS that I had did it, but my 03 WRX does not. Kevin M 08-01-2003, 01:49 PM Search for "clutch shudder in the Transmission forum. pgreenswim 08-01-2003, 02:32 PM Just took my car in for a clunking drivers window. Top bolt holding the regulator in fell out. Every time I'd open a window, the bottom bolt would torque hard, bending the metal severely. Upon inspection, and that my car was over warranty, they recommended fixing it with an oversized washer. It worked and cost was minimal. The only other fix would have been a door skin replacement. Make sure you pull your door panels off once in a while to check them, as this is a common problem. There's even a service notice out. SnoHumper 08-03-2003, 02:31 PM i tried to launch from 5k rpms and somethin went boom boom.. i took it in to dealer and they fixed it.. cost like 2 grand worth of tranny parts but they did it! i love my service manager!! WOOT chuck u rule! wizurd 08-03-2003, 11:07 PM i tried bringing in my car for the clutch judder.......... and they said they had to have the service guys replicate it......... and since the car is stubborn and wouldnt do it for them they wouldnt do it........... and it usually does it only on cold humid days........ and im in vegas and those days are very rare...... so yes it definately depends on the dealership Seth Kevin M 08-04-2003, 12:22 AM Things like this: Originally posted by SnoHumper i tried to launch from 5k rpms and somethin went boom boom.. i took it in to dealer and they fixed it.. cost like 2 grand worth of tranny parts but they did it! i love my service manager!! They informed me that they had just received a memo from SOA stating that the warranty of the drivetrain is to be voided if a K&N air filter is used. Does that make sense to anyone? Kevin M 08-04-2003, 08:56 PM The only possible repair that could be attributed to a K&N would be a failed MAF. Anything else would be illegal denial of your warranty. V8fiero 08-17-2003, 08:34 PM HAY iwas told the same last week! My K&N airfilter Voided my warranty. So i had to pay $230.00 for a new front O/2. I have 34000 MI. The filter is in the stock air box! I also contacted a law ferm about the TSB not being made public. IT s Like "Buy a Subaru, GO play with it , Go race It!"....."Oh we forgot to tell you, that voids your warranty." dropkick_muppet 08-17-2003, 08:53 PM 16k miles and the only warranty issues i've had have been a broken front cup holder (due to the crappy design, they should have just sold the car without one) and a couple of steering wheel alignment issues. Kevin M 08-17-2003, 10:53 PM Contact a lawyer. If they denied warranty work due to the filter, it is illegal. The filter is a part that is replaced during routine maintenance, therefore the dealer must provide them to you free of charge, or you can use any other filter you like withOUT having your warranty voided. t-wrexxx 08-20-2003, 08:31 AM Maybe I would buy another WRX if Subaru would stand behind their warranty.
