Since the old forums can't be searched anymore i'll ask the question.

Are the Outback 2002 and Impreza 2002 OBDII compliant.
Are they using the ISO standard or another one.

The reason I ask is that i've been unable to read OBD codes from 2002 subarus.

I visually checked the metal pins available under the dash, and they don't seem to follow any standard (mind you they are really hard to see ??? ) plus inside the hood, no mantion of OBD II compliance. Just a mention follows MOT 2002 specifications.

The same laptop used with the GM interface works perfectly, so I know the laptop and cables are fine.

Yes they are. My OBDII scanner works fine with all my cars that OBDII in them. The scanner that I have is also generic.

All 96 and up US cars are OBDII compliant.
