Yeah, so I'm terminally jealous of the STi owners, granted.

But I'm wondering if any of you WRX-> STi converters has gotten his new insurance bill yet, and if so, what did it say?

If I switch, can I vainly hope that State Farm hasn't heard that there is such a thing as an "STi" that is different from a "WRX"?

Didn't think so.

Please tell me if the insurance company recognize STI as WRX or an STI?

Cause I checked with my insurance for the EVO before , It was recognized as regular 2003 Lancer :)

The EVO quote was $460 6 months full coverage w/ one WRX and 93 Civic in the policy.
I went on Ebay and get a sample of EVO's VIN No.
Haven't called in for the STI
WRX = $430 > 6 months full coverage
Civic = too low to quote :)
Location : Plano, TX
Age: 26
Tickets since 1996:
1 in NY (PAID)
1 in GA (PAID)
1 in NM (PAID)
4 dismissed in TX
Most tickets are for travelling about 15-20 mph above speed limits (not reckless driving or racing)
Only 1 shown on my driving record (back in 97)

I just got an evo 2 weeks ago. I was paying 1600/year for 99 mercury cougar (170hp). Insurance did not recognize the evo. I am insured at the lancer oz 120hp rating. My insurance droped 500/year to 1100/year. If and when my company does recognize the evo it will go up. Hopefully with only 6500 imported they will not bother as they may only insure one or two of them.
accident 1 year ago they payed 4000
two tickets in last 2 years but no points
one other accident 18 months ago, no payout

also, all states here in the tri-state area do transfer points
PA, NJ, DE, MD, NY all go back and forth

The reply is little off topic but may be of interest.

Coming originally from Britain I was amazed at the way insurance for cars is worked out here in the US. It is obvious that the brokers see the STi as a 2.5L 4 door sedan worth about $32000. In Britain all brokers work of a car group system. A central agency rates a car from group 1 to 25. Group 25 cars are Ferrari's and the like, whilst it is almost impossible to find a car under group 5. A cheap, underpowered Ford 4 door would normally be group 10-12. The groups are decided upon by price, power, engine size, desirabilty to thieves and the likely market demographic. For instance, the basic 1.4L Golf might be a group 11 car whilst the GTi would be an 18 or so. The insurance price is obviously related to the group number.
It is obvious from this, that owning an STi in Britain would be expensive because the car is powerful, attractive to thieves and brought mostly by younger drivers.
One nice thing about the British insurance system is the 'no-claims bonus'. Each year you have insurance and make no claims you get a reduction off next years quote. It is normally 10% per year up to a maximum of 7 years (thats 70% max off the normal quote). The rate of uninsured motorists is very low, so if someone drives into the back of you, the claim almost always comes from their policy.
All is not well however, a friend from Northen Ireland was telling me that most insurures will not even quote for drivers under 25 in Ireland. The only way to drive when young is on your parents policy. The trouble with this is that good drivers build up no 'no-claims bonus' making the first premium aged 25 an absolute killer.

Blade,

The insurance asked the price of the car which was recognized as Lancer in their computer sys. I told them about 29K.
The CS quoted $460 for EVO..

And recently I called my ins cause I am getting an STi.
The quote was about the same as EVO.
Their computer recognizes the VIN as Subaru (not even an Impreza)
Again the CS asked me about the value of the car and I said 31K and it's an Impreza.

I am sure as the time goes by, their database will be updated.
And for sure I am not looking forward to a huge increase on the ins prem. just because they recognize an STi..
Well.. reasonable increase would be fine....

At least I gave them an exact VIN of the STi :)
Then they should cover my whole STi as VIN shows.

Update on my STi Insurance.
It's $560 for 6 months (w/ uprated coverage) for $250 deductible
The quote for $400 something was for '04 WRX w/ 25K value.
I told them $31K MSRP then the insurance jumped to $560.

Valentine 1 will be my best protection when driving conservatively over the speed limits

Well, maybe not a perfect driving record, but here are my rates:

2004sti - 2196 year/full everything
2002chevy suburban - 3072 year/full everything
1998cbr1100 - 2554 year/full everything
1997integra type-r - 996 year/full everything

Important to note the type-r is worth twice as much as the sti and all prices are in cdn$.

State run insurance in BC is much better than having it insured in AB, where I work - the sti was going to cost 5412$ here, not such a good deal.

Funny seeing this laid out, I never knew how much this habit costs me until now...

Happy as a clam to see my insurance on the STi was $800/yr less than my 99 SVT Cobra! Now I know why. They thinks its your typical cautiously driven Subaru. Is this the ultimate sleeper or what!!!

age 21 no accident no ticket, ny, don't even have a girlfriend and a house. I own a 1998 2.5RS, my insurance was 490 per month for full coverage. Damn unfair, insurance rate in ny are so high. All my wage goes directly to the insurance company.

Be careful and make sure you have enough coverage when you have other assets (like a house).
