Ever Since my father had a Supra back in '94 making 600+HP with all HKS parts I must say I've been a fan.

I was on the HKS site the other day and saw an annoucement for their new GT Sport Turbo Kit and nearly Shat a brick with excitment.

Just looking at it it looks like a fantastic kit. Gobbs of power.
This and the fact that upgrading the fuel system and the intercooler and engine managment and start craking up the boost and start making some sick numbers.

here's the low down from the HKS site:
---------------------------------

HKS is proud to introduce our all new off road use only GT Sport Turbo Upgrade for the 2002+ Subaru Impreza WRX. This turbo upgrade combines a GT2540R ball-bearing turbo, Up-pipe, straight through Downpipe, split housing Extension, Super Mega Flow intake and all the neccesary fittings and gaskets to make it a complete bolt on kit.

This GT Sport Turbo Upgrade along with a HKS Hi-Power exhaust and HKS EVC with boost set to 1.0bar made 244.6 HP and 212.8 lbs of torque at the wheels. That is a 70 peak HP gain over stock and at maxium RPM there was nearly a 100 HP increase. All figures were achieved with the factory ecu and factory intercooler!

I'm strongly considering this... what do ppl think about:
reliability?
future upgrading potential past this kit?
bad ass factor?
difficulty to install yourself?

oh yeah and I've found the kit for sale online for about $2500 ($750 below MSRP)

Check out vividracing... they just put it on their 04 WRX.

I have just installed this kit on one of my good customer's car. The quality is superb. HKS is da bomb. The car is just running 7psi waitning for larger injectors, but it feels very nice.

7psi eh? according to the HKS website they're running 1bar wich is (and correct me if I'm wrong) just under 15psi.

I have the hyper catback but I have no boost controler (or a boost gauge for that) would I want to consider those before putting this on or is it in my best interest to get those first?

more boost = more fuel needed...I am afraid to run a MBC without engine management. not a good Idea to be boosting 15+ psi and start running lean. HKS is running 1psi, but probably have the STI injectors.

I understand more boost = more fuel needed
HKS is running 1BAR which is 14.7 PSI the stock WRX runs about 12PSI and from what I've heard the european and japaese counterparts run 15 from the factory and it's not pushing it till you go past that.

so why lower the boost? that's where I'm confused.

if you were running 1psi you might as well not even have turbo. also if more boost=more fuel, wouldn't you be running VERY rich?

I wouldn't run an MBC either, HKS was using their EVC (4th version I think) a very nice and very expensive Electronic Boost Controler

oops I meant 15psi... more boost = more fuel NEEDED. sorry for the confusion, just tryin to figure out why they would run a larger turbo without upgrading the injectors...seems like an inexpensive ($390) safeguard if you ask me.

I did not lower the boost. I am running it at wastegate spring boost level (~ 7psi). That is because the car does NOT have bigger injectors. Once I put them in, we will crank the boost up.

yeah its a valid point... ill probably upgrade the fuel system but... if you think about it at 390 for the sti injectors you could save up and for a few hundred more you coul get some that out put WAY MORE and give you a good platform for more boost once you get an intercooler upgrade.

7psi from an HKS turbo vs 1bar out of the stocker does not mean the stocker is flowing twice as much. It's not about PSI but rather CFM.

The HKS flows more thus is probably more efficient at higher PSI's. If on the stock fuel system, I probably wouldn't go over 12psi until upgrading the fuel system and even getting a engine managment system. Infact, without getting some sort of EM system, you wont make the gains HKS is claiming.

thanks that's the kind of answer I was looking for...

what kind of engine managment are you talking about; a full blow utec, or unichip, or fuel managment like the greddy emanage, or the HKS afc.

the site says they had the EVC and Hyper Exhaust in addition to the kit... any idea what else they were running to make those gains? I mean specifically what engine managment or what injectors etc.

Imprezer which injecters do you plan on running for that setup? STi? PE?
